PJ also just gave his review of the songs he heard from the album in the comments section of our story from yesterday, “The last two records have been billed in the pre album hype machine as their best since Vitalogy… except this one legitimately is. I’ve heard 4 songs. Shit is hot fire.” He also reiterated the points he made in late May regarding the announcement.
4 songs and the guy's already annointing it the best since Vitalogy?
Yeah a bit premature, but this guy has predicted everything correct thus far so at least we can assume that the info is legit.

No uke. No silly punk. Please. Let Stone and Jeff write the tunes. Not gonna happen....I know, but we can dream.

The real question is - who is this guy?
A) Brendan O'Brien
B) Joseph Arthur
C) The Rob
D) Matt Chamberlain
E) Dude from Incubus
F) Disgruntled Former Underling of Tim Bierman

I wouldn't mind a more fleshed out version of Without You, Sleeping By Myself, or Light Today but not on an album. Could be a cool b-side or something.

I always thought 'Light Today' could be a good song, as long as they don't produce it like Backspacer.
Guys, did we ever find out whether that moth artwork with 'Of The Earth' on it was real? If so, that would indicate that this album might take itself a little more seriously. I like speculating about music based on artwork and I did like the vibes it gave me. Exciting vibes. Like woah kind of exciting.

I also think 'You're True' could be a PJ song but in my head I can hear it sounding a little bit too much like 'Gone'. I quite like Gone but we've already had it.

I'd go with 'Light Today' or 'Waving Palms'. Both seem like they could be expanded upon. The latter might be more interesting at this point since it was only 38 seconds long.

Didn't they record a bunch of what ended up on Uke Songs back in the Riot Act sessions?

Yeah, Waving Palms is lovely and I'd love that to become something but I'd also be devastated if they ruined it. It seems like PJ have no problems coming up with a looped riff or chord structure or even verse these days, but they're having trouble extending it to an entire song which works.

I wouldn't mind an album of the looped riffs and chord structures, really. An instrumental, soundscapey, film soundtracky-type thing might be a really nice deviation.

Yeah. You get the feeling that if they did an album of 30 second bits-and-pieces, it'd be awesome.

Unfortunately, like you said, they're not great at piecing these bits together to make a full song. They end up making these "frankensongs" - a la WorldWide Suicide.

Unfortunately I think that's quite revealing about their song process. I know that when passion isn't high and you just want to get things done, you end up searching through bits of your unfinished songs and seeing what you can do with them.
