The Brutalist is appropriately serious considering it's subject matter; Jews finding a place in America after narrowly surviving the Holocaust in Budapest, struggling to hold on to their values and principles under the weight of their traumas, old and new, and the role America plays in their support and lack thereof. It says a lot and says it very well. And the performances are superb. I think this movie will one day be considered one of the truly great American epics, but the Corbet name doesn't yet have the clout of a Spielberg. Get in on this one early, folks.

Pretty much, but the last act doesn't pay off at all. The dynamic explored between Leo in DeNiro is just pounded into your face for like an hour and it's like yeah we get it Leo is dumb and easily influenced.

Goodfellas and Taxi Driver were contenders in their era but Scorsese is past his prime.
