1. A lot of things happentommy wrote:tree, would you care to respond to this 2 star Amazon review of The Brutalist?
Brutally long and boring
Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2025
This movie The Brutalist is very long and very dull. It's well over 3 hours long and nothing really happens in that time. (They do eventually get a building built, I think) The movie also contains blatant repugnant actions from the characters such as antisemitism, "classism", rape and sexual assualt of both men and women, and a bit of glamorous Hollywood heroin addiction to make it cool and hip for the kids. This movie made me ponder why films are so extreme these days. Why are movies either 3 and half hours long, pretentious, serious, challenging, and painful or an hour and a half of fairies, unicorns, rainbows, diversity, and inclusiveness? What happened to the middle ground where 99.9% of us live?
2. yes, because some people are evil, historically, and it's artistically interesting to explore. also, good people sometimes behave badly, and bad people sometimes do nice things, such is real life
3. there's nothing hip about heroin addiction, and this movie doesn't attempt to glamorize it. it's also historically relevant and interesting to explore
4. this person probably listens to 5 hour long podcasts, and/or mindlessly consumes 10 hour Netflix series', yet is unable to sit through or comprehend a beautiful masterpiece of a movie.. shameful, and telling

I'm about to start Thunderbolt and Lightfoot. I'm digging the Paul Williams song that plays over the menu.

The Last Showgirl.
Yeez, that was not good at all. I mean, i kinda suspected it, because Gia Coppola is not a good director. There is not a single idea here, its just trying to be deep and steal from better movies. Pam Anderson is wasted and she is not good at all. There are three music scenes with 80s music that are desperate to be iconic in tik tok or something.

A Real Pain... a pretty unremarkable movie. Weird how Culken won awards for this.

Just watched Anora. Honestly surprised this won as many awards as it did; a fine movie, but I wasn’t really blown away by anything save for maybe the performances. The borderline slapstick henchmen felt like it out was out of a marvel tv show

It's not a curse word, it's a prestige word. That's how you know Anora is better than Marvel.

The only issue I have with the sex scenes is that there was no intimacy coordinator on set.VinylGuy wrote:I gettin the idea Joe didn’t liked it because of this and the graphic sex scenesepilogue wrote:Mecca wrote:Asshole is a curse word to you? Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I'm not sure what that has to do with anything, but I'd expect nothing less from Baker. And she did an amazing job.tragabigzanda wrote:Have you read about Mikey’s involvement in the creation of her character at all? Re: What movies are you watching?
I think any movie that has intimate work should have an intimacy coordinator. The same way any movie with stunts, even minor stunts, should have a stunt coordinator.
Mikey is an actress. Baker is a director. And as good as they are at their jobs, neither are intimacy coordinators.
