I don’t understand why people are even upset about a mascot or name change.

They change jerseys all the time. In my case here with the Braves, people are upset passionately about the name and the chant as if either mattered, it’s the modern day lost cause.

We could change tomorrow to the Atlanta Hammers after Hank Aaron, keep the same arm motion, and the Tool race and it wouldn’t change squat. I don’t understand the desire to hang on to “tradition” in this instance and I likely never will.

I mean, the Bees, Beeneaters, Blue Sox. The idea that you’re going to lose Q Rating because of this is silly.

i'm glad the washington name change is happening. initially i was opposed, mainly based on some polls from the wapo and espn, and i read about the benign origins of the word from a smithsonian article. also, i thought it was about context. the word "redskins" to most people just means a football team in washington. i guess i'm woke now (probably not really). it's offending enough people and like joey mentioned a few pages back, i too am uneasy when i see drunk white dudes decked out in native attire. if changing the name can help people move on and not feel marginalized, then it should be done. i'm also in favor of their larger effort to remove native imagery and names from everything. jeep cherokee, apache helicopters, cleveland indians, fsu seminoles, atlanta braves, everything.

and i expect the next phase inevitably will include angry mob-style aggression to be directed at individuals seen wearing the legacy racist sports attire, prompting an action / re-action cycle which ultimately transitions the association of the historic logo from its actual, respected tribal chief to a symbol of white nationalism / Trump support

That’s an interesting story, especially considering the people pushing for Red Tails as the mascot. For people that are against people as mascots I wonder how they square that. I’m interested to see how they change the name and logo.

hearing some rumors swirling around about big news coming out of washington. sounds like there is a scandal the post is going to break soon. hearing the news is "disappointing and sad", and that it could even mean snyder is being forced out. stay tuned...

Holy shit... I have no idea how real any of it is but the allegations being tossed around on Twitter are FUUUUCKED up.

Meanwhile 72 players have reportedly have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Training camps still scheduled to open for everyone July 28.

Not to downplay anything--and what I've seen on Twitter are just rumors--but I have a vague memory of hearing these stories before and nothing happening as a result. Maybe there's another shoe that's going to drop.

Really? This is the first time I've heard any of this. I realize it's all Twitter rumor and speculation. I'm not saying any of it is true. I don't know yet. But it's the first I've heard of anything at all on this level -- outside of paying refs; that seems like common knowledge/speculation at this point.
