I like the chorus of Getaway and where it goes towards the end, but I've kind of tired of the rest

It could be for me too. At the very least, somewhere in the top 5. Another contender for me is the explosive last minute of Quick Escape.

Perfectly listenable and serviceable as a high paced stomper. There's some feeling to try to differentiate it from the back catalogue with that ominous intro and the vocal middle 8.

However, it's just far too similar to Gonna Be My Friend, Getaway, Swallowed Whole...it comes across as latter era PJ's stock modus operandi. I do think the production conceals a lot on tracks like this - it will sound thin and lame live.

I think when performed live, this one will live or die based on how much energy Ed can pour into the middle section; if he knows what's good for it, he'll milk that for all it's worth, so that the return to the chorus at the end has impact

I almost want them to do everything they do in live RVM (that I hate in that song) in this one; take the best part and jam it the fuck out, letting it become even more distorted in the back half

the snare sound on this song is so sexy (and I don't like every snare on this album)

it took a while but I'm coming around to the first section of this song now; I was just surprised it didn't have the unhinged distorted noise and energy I expected; it loosens up and builds in intensity later, but is not interested in the big intro punch, and now that I've come to terms with that, I can concentrate on what it *is* doing; I don't know how to speak about guitar chords, really, but that first section (and the whole song, really) throws some nicely unexpected "grunge" chord changes and vocal melody choices that kind of compete with the song's more classic rock backbone, and I'm beginning to really enjoy that fight between both of those equally Pearl Jam inclinations; it's in the slightly awkward and jarring tussle between the soaring "who ever said it's all been said?" and the Stones-esque "gave up on satisfaction!" (during which I can hear "can't get no... satisfaction!", and it makes me cringe a little)

anyway, all of that is to say, my journey with all of this song's oddities and ironies is its strength, not a weakness

this is so fucking true. aim that directly at mike/stone. crazy weak live tones post "yield" era pearl jam. it's so painful listening to their modern setup playing the older material. people complain about vedder, but stone/mike are the overall let downs for me live these days. i remember blowing cash i didn't actually have in 2003 on those japan boots and learned my lesson, will never buy another pj boot again. paper thin sounding guitars. ugh.

I like this song but a few things hold it back from being great

The "cradle to the grave" and "ventricles pumping" lines are two of them

this is what ultimately did it for me with SBWM.

I like this song a lot but I do feel like I'm only hearing Eddie's guitar on it, except for maybe some subtle flourishes in the second half. His rhythm playing always sounds so rudimentary and thin compared to Stone's.

I don't think this band has utilized the three-guitar approach very effectively very often. I wish Eddie would relinquish guitar duties to Mike and Stone even on song's he's written, I feel like it would bolster the overall impact of many of his songs.
