Re: Matt Cameron quits Pearl Jam

If he gets in on Alice and Chains now he can angle for a 3x RnR HOF inductee. It's only a matter of time for them.
Exactly ... its not so simple as changing drummers being solely responsible for the band changing ... everyone in the band has changed (naturally, with time). It's just that with a new face in the band it becomes the easiest way to quantify whatever changes are happening.oneway23 wrote:They had the right drummer they needed for whatever point they were at in their lives at that time.mikejasond wrote:

Dave A with young Pearl Jam was ideal. Perhaps later, not so much.
The fact that it didn't happen allows our brains to fill in the ideal, as though they'd still be writing albums like VS. in their fifties if only Dave A. were still in the band.

I don’t think Ed would care all that much since they fired the guy twice in like 3 days.MattA75 wrote:Zak Starkey would also be fine, and has the friendship with Ed that is likely some sort of prerequisite (though I don't know if Ed would "tuck" it to Pete and Roger like that)
Really, REALLY hoping something along these lines happens.MattA75 wrote:As they regroup, it would be perfect time for a Lost Dogs II as a sort of final bow on Matt's time with the band.
The chemistry of human beings ebbs, flows, and changes working in a freaking office over decades, never mind sitting on a tour bus, in a plane, in a hotel, in a studio, etc.EBowie wrote:

I mean that may be, but the question was why people say Matt was better in Soundgarden than Pearl Jam, and regardless of what Pearl Jam needed, I still think Matt's drumming sounds better in Soundgarden.EBowie wrote:Exactly ... its not so simple as changing drummers being solely responsible for the band changing ... everyone in the band has changed (naturally, with time). The songwriting chemistry between the two bands is completely unique.mikejasond wrote:I mean that may be, but the question was why people say Matt was better in Soundgarden than Pearl Jam, and regardless of what Pearl Jam needed, I still think Matt's drumming sounds better in Soundgarden
All the more reason we need a Lost Dogs II to cap his time with the bandFarmer John wrote:I'm mostly sad that, unless there's some finished gems in the vault, "Get it Back" is that last Matt-penned song we'll be getting from this band.
I may have worded it in a way that was confusing. What I meant was that different drummers will of course change the sound of the band but its not just the drummer that is contributing to the change. Of course Yield sounds different than VS - and of course the different drummers are a big reason why - but they're not the only reason why. I just think there's a tendency to oversimplify the changes in the band's style and sound as being solely because of a drummer change.mikejasond wrote:I mean that may be, but the question was why people say Matt was better in Soundgarden than Pearl Jam, and regardless of what Pearl Jam needed, I still think Matt's drumming sounds better in Soundgarden.EBowie wrote:Exactly ... its not so simple as changing drummers being solely responsible for the band changing ... everyone in the band has changed (naturally, with time). I do know that. I literally explained why it's not health. If it was THAT you say THAT in the announcement not "More to come!"wease wrote:You don’t know that. He had Covid like 8 times in 3 years. What you don't do is announce your next gig at the same time! He is referring to his next music announcement, whatever that might be.

Or maybe it’s nobody’s fucking business what his health is and he could want some goddamn privacy about it.oneway23 wrote:"I have terminal cancer...I probably should have mentioned that last week."given2trade wrote:I do know that. Would be really weird
That's ultimately the correct answer.wease wrote:Or maybe it’s nobody’s fucking business what his health is and he could want some goddamn privacy about it.
