If he gets in on Alice and Chains now he can angle for a 3x RnR HOF inductee. It's only a matter of time for them.

They had the right drummer they needed for whatever point they were at in their lives at that time.

Dave A with young Pearl Jam was ideal. Perhaps later, not so much.

The fact that it didn't happen allows our brains to fill in the ideal, as though they'd still be writing albums like VS. in their fifties if only Dave A. were still in the band.
Exactly ... its not so simple as changing drummers being solely responsible for the band changing ... everyone in the band has changed (naturally, with time). It's just that with a new face in the band it becomes the easiest way to quantify whatever changes are happening.

And Matt’s going to the Foo Fighters.
Will Goldsmith to Pearl Jam confirmed

I don’t think Ed would care all that much since they fired the guy twice in like 3 days.

Really, REALLY hoping something along these lines happens.

The chemistry of human beings ebbs, flows, and changes working in a freaking office over decades, never mind sitting on a tour bus, in a plane, in a hotel, in a studio, etc.

It's never as simple as plugging a hole, next person off of the assembly line.

You're talking about a lot of sensitive, artistic types, with frequent flights of whim and ego as they chase creativity.

That alchemy can be so fragile.

I'm mostly sad that, unless there's some finished gems in the vault, "Get it Back" is that last Matt-penned song we'll be getting from this band.

I mean that may be, but the question was why people say Matt was better in Soundgarden than Pearl Jam, and regardless of what Pearl Jam needed, I still think Matt's drumming sounds better in Soundgarden.

The songwriting chemistry between the two bands is completely unique.

Why would Cameron join Pearl Jam and play like Billy Cobham in Mahavishnu Orchestra?

All the more reason we need a Lost Dogs II to cap his time with the band

biggest reason why I don't think PJ is done?

They spent all that money on the giant touring TV screen background

they gotta get more use out of that before they call it quits :haha:

Matt might still have a personal equity stake in the screen.

The money will roll right in, indeed

I may have worded it in a way that was confusing. What I meant was that different drummers will of course change the sound of the band but its not just the drummer that is contributing to the change. Of course Yield sounds different than VS - and of course the different drummers are a big reason why - but they're not the only reason why. I just think there's a tendency to oversimplify the changes in the band's style and sound as being solely because of a drummer change.

You don’t know that. He had Covid like 8 times in 3 years. He may have some kind of long-Covid stuff going on.
I do know that. I literally explained why it's not health. If it was THAT you say THAT in the announcement not "More to come!"

"I have terminal cancer...I probably should have mentioned that last week."

Would be really weird

Or maybe it’s nobody’s fucking business what his health is and he could want some goddamn privacy about it.

That's ultimately the correct answer.

Reminds me of all of the recent speculation around Matt Reeves and his Batman sequel.

"He's dealing with a personal health issue" is as far as that one needs to go.

That's apparently not enough for his fanbase.

Or, guys, hear me out:

Matt Cameron absolutely loves the band, their creative output, their decisions, their touring schedule, his creative output with the band, and still loves playing shows, but just wants to do something different at 61 years old? Dude has been touring with bands for probably 45 years now.
