Not the case with the Big Day Out.
Headliners frequently play arena shows in the same city as the festival in the bigger Australian markets (Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne mainly.)

Cool!
Wish the same could apply here. Missed a lot of shows just through being unwilling to go to a festival to see one band and they can't play shows nearby cos of that rule.
You gonna go see pj at BDO if they do it spenno?
(If. I know it's a forgone conclusion)

Yes, absolutely.
($185 a ticket, though. Criminy!)

For the whole weekend? Or just a day ticket?
That's about right for a weekend ticket. Festivals are mad expensive here but my fabourite(electric picnic) did all kinds of cool offers this year. If you had your wristbands from three previous years you got a ticket for half price and up the scale of you had two or one.
Also they do a reduced price ticket and early bird options and instalment plans.
It's good work for getting tickets sold.

It's a touring one-day festival (like the Lollapalooza of old), that's the cost of one day. There is two Sydney dates next year but they're independent of one another.
That said, Pearl Jam (and Ed) have charged around $110 per ticket the last few times they've been here.

Ok that's kind of a lot for a day. Are there any other bands confirmed that you're into?
I'd need more than just Pj for that kinda lolly

Line-up is being announced on July 31.
It won't make any difference in regards to my decison, though. I paid almost that much to see Neil Young headline the festival in 2009 and Soundgarden in 2012 and virtually didn't watch any other bands on those days.
Tickets to Neil Young and Crazy Horse's (non-festival) show down here a few months ago were $150. It's just the nature of going to big shows in Australia.

Yeah I guess. Most expensive ticket I ever bought was Neil. But it was in a 1500 capacity venue and all seated. You can see that show on the DVD that comes with greendale. He did three nights. We went to two. €105 a ticket. But it was worth it.

The biggest problem with not knowing side show details is organising travel. I would love to get to a few shows this time around but I'm not travelling interstate for BDO. Side shows then sure. But there's not too many dates available unless they do their solo shows after the BDO run.

I agree on the first point - won't travel for a BDO - but would go to Brisbane or Melbourne.
On the second point - strongly doubt they'd play a run of shows after BDO. It'd fit in with the BDO stretch.
I'm just HOPING that PJ have made an arrangement to play sideys in the main east coast capitals, as well as BDO's.

I really hope they do some kind of side shows. I wanted to go to more than one show this time and I really can't afford two BDO's.

I'll be quite surprised if there isn't at least a Melbourne show.
There's four clear days between the Gold Coast and Melbourne BDOs, I presume it'll happen then sometime.

Looks like I could very well be making the trip across the ditch to Melbourne then, but I'm hoping like crazy they don't announce PJ as BDO headliners.
