Just trying to think where they would play in DFW. We have two top notch concert halls (Bass and Winspear), an arena that actually has good acoustics (American Airlines), a mid size indoor amphitheater (Verizon) and a big outdoor amphitheater (Gexa).

They just announced the fall tour. Looks like no new album this year.
sigur rós have announced an upcoming north american tour this fall. for the first time in their career the band will be touring without a support act, instead offering the audience two sets (+ intermission) starting from 8:30pm sharp at each show.

the month long run is comprised primarily of theater shows, marking the band’s most intimate tour in a decade. in keeping with the scale of the venues, the group will be performing without the string and brass sections that have been characteristic of recent performances, opting instead to focus on the core unit of the band itself. the shows will give the group a chance to road test new music, the first time since the tour leading up to the acclaimed ( ) album in 2002 that the band has performed new material ahead of album recording sessions. alongside this experimentation played out in public, the band is also planning on attempting new interpretations of old songs that haven’t been played in a very long time.

though the scale of the venues and band will be reduced, the live production will be characteristically stunning, designed again by the team behind their previous knights of illumination award-winning tour

I've only seen them play outdoors. Seeing them at the Academy of Music should be pretty intense.

Thinking about making a weekend trip to Chicago. Not much time to make a decision, though.

The venue's site took a dump. It took 45 minutes, but I finally got tickets. I was ready to give up and got lucky.

Those that were linked through Ticketmaster were directed to TM's "Platinum Tickets" at the on-sale time and told the Sigur Ros pre-sales were all sold out. When they finally became available, the purchase page always crapped out.

I'm still hoping for a Texas date to be added. There's a large swath of the south they're missing.

they played to half empty venues in the south the last time they came through. i'm sure the promoter lost a ton of money on it.

Sadly, I can confirm this. They played a small amphitheater in Miami (apparently not so small--Google says capacity is 10,000). It was half empty. I had a great time, one of my favorite concert-going experiences of my life, but it was disappointing how empty it was.

Same here. They played Charleston and it was about 1/2 full. My brother and I bought seats in the very back row of a small theater, but were able to move up to about 15 rows from the stage.

This is why bands don't tour the south because the south is full of terrible people.

Great showing in Denver a couple years ago.

Damn, that sucks to hear. They sold out their last stop through DFW, and that was a 6,000 seat venue.

So this Chicago sale isn't going to happen for me. It doesn't seem like the usual server crashing free for all where maybe you get tickets after an hour. It feels like there simply are no tickets. That's the same message I've gotten every time. Maybe they made everything available for the presale.
