Just finished listening to the recent 2005 D&D live release, there were some good audience pulls from this tour as well as an exhaustive bootleg compilation but it's nice to have a SBD representation. I particularly enjoyed the One Step Up > Reno > When You're Alone > Valentine's Day run.

$129? Ugh. Sorry, Bruce -- give me a 2CD collection of unreleased stuff a la "The Promise," drop the price about $110 and we'll talk.

a two-DVD film of never-released, newly edited multi-camera footage from Springsteen's famed 1980 show in Tempe, AZ, long rumored but never-before-seen; rare tour rehearsal footage; a brand new documentary "The Ties That Bind" about 'The River
Fuck yeah! Bruce just keeps on delivering. Wish Pearl Jam (and really, every other band I love) would do this.

I don't think this has two discs worth of unreleased audio material.

Don't know if anyone else caught The Ties That Bind on HBO over the weekend but it was just okay. Especially in comparison to Zimny's work on Wings for Wheels and The Promise, this ended up being a glorified Storytellers. Not a ton of behind the scenes footage or interviews from anyone other than Bruce. It was interesting but nowhere near on par with the other two.
The best parts were him talking about how the decision to make it a double album allowed him to mix in different styles that he otherwise would not have included. Always love hearing the thought process that goes into the snapshot for a given point in time.

Thanks. It wasn't shown here and I've looked for a link/torrent of it but no luck so far. The previous 2 were fantastic and I had high hopes for this. I guess it's the next one that could be fantastic.

Yeah, if you're a Bruce fan it's obviously worth a watch, but it's just not up to snuff in comparison to the first two, which had a much larger scope.

The new doc was always going to suffer compared to the previous two. But Landau and Bruce have said many times that there just isn't any studio footage from The River sessions. Their buddy who was filming during BTR and Darkness... wasn't in the studio for The River. So they kinda had to go with a different approach this time out of necessity. It sucks, but it is what it is.
The real gem in the boxset is the Tempe footage

That's a drag. This is the one album of his I might have dropped serious money on if the whole package was great.

Making of Born to Run and the Darkness on the Edge of Town. Both are excellent.
I agree about new doc, not enough old footage.

That's what they're titled? Just "Making of"?
