this seems to be a growing sentiment over the last year or so, but for all of the pronouncements of people being apathetic or, in pit terms, "done with these fucking sellouts," it sure is hard to get tickets to a show.

Well, I have thought so many times "This is my last show. I'm getting too old for this shit." After 6 shows in 2010, I was about 75% there, but then the PJ20 show came up and I got back into it.

As for the tickets, well, not as many old school people are leaving the 10c as forum posters might suggest (it's only $20/year to stay in). But you gotta remember that PJ is just about the only rock band that still sells out almost every show and their audience is the one who had reached their prime earning period, so the money is there as well, and that means they are a prime target for scalpers. Add in the lotto (a casual, 'craig's list' scalper's dream) and a lack of recent US dates and you get what we saw this past weekend.

I think it's the lack of other shows more than anything else. If the band played full US tours every year or two, no way would you see the kind of mad scramble for tickets you see now whenever they play a show.

I'm sure they know it too. I think they'd have trouble selling out the kind of venues they play now if they toured more regularly.

It would be awesome if the 10c setup some kind of ticket swap system or let you buy singles. I have what I assume will be amazing seats to London, but my wife can't go so I am left with a spare 10c ticket. I'd love to trade that for a decent ticket to Wrigley, but I have no way of being confident that I won't be ripped off by someone who would not hold up their end of the deal.

Without a doubt, they would have huge issues in the middle of the US and down south. I mean there are towns they just never went back to. They have to be the worst run organization next to the New York Mets, Jets and Islanders. Theere never gonna have problems in the northeast, but if they had announced a tour, wrigley would not have the prices it has up on stubhub. I don't even think it would have sold out.

I kinda am in the same boat, I was excited about here about a chicago show, always wanted to see them there, even got interested late last week about maybe going. But the realization is it will be the same unrehearsed screw up predictable show they have been playing for 4 years now. I've seen them 30 times as of montreal 2011, I felt then I was done for a while.

I also got to thinking while I was lathering myself in the shower this morning. Maybe these two shows are gonna compensate for the shitty pj 20 shows. Like they will release these two and all.

Excellent detail to sneak in there.

I don't think people go to Pearl Jam shows to be entertained anymore. It's all about the "event". Like a Phish or Dave Matthews show or something. The "jock" mentality in action. When people go to see the Stones, it's because they're the fuckin' Stones, not because it's an opportunity to slam some beers with your bros and have a big tailgate party.

The pearl jam tours are all well calculated out...It's all about marketing the tickets to...So, the tickets are in high demand...

Why do you think the tour management doesn't announce a full tour all at once?...

I got two in section 208 row 12 for $250 a ticket. Anyone else buy from stubhub or the like? Just wondering what people are willing to pay at this time.

That's not bad. I've been seeing them for near $400. Looks like you're going to have to change your username ;)

Looks like roughly 1 in 20 tickets for this show are currently on 'secondary market' sites.

For once, when it comes to touring, I think they actually do - by that I mean that announcing only a scattered handful of shows in a piecemeal fashion is an entirely deliberate act to make their fans think this is the only chance they'll have to see them anytime soon and so rush to buy tickets.

Announce a new record and full US tour this year, repeat that cycle in 2015 and even the northeast shows wouldn't be as nutty as they are now. If these guys had continued touring and putting out records with the same frequency as other bands, I think they'd be playing much smaller venues by now. At some point, they (or their management) twigged to that and started the kind of touring approach they now use. Pearl Jam are a pretty big band, but I don't think they're as big as they appear to be - selling out Wrigley Field is impressive, but I very much doubt they could they have done that had it only been one date in a larger tour. Bands like Foo Fighters and Tool tour more widely and more frequently and (as far as I know) sell arenas out quite comfortably despite that - I'm quite sceptical Pearl Jam could do the same if they were on the road every year.

This could be true...But, they are just screwing the fans over....If they aren't big enough to sale out the standard venues......Player smaller venues and more shows.....I agree....Wrigley wouldn't have sold out....If it wasn't for this being the only show announced in the US....

Which would be awesome, because I could be seeing a well rehearsed and well refined version of Pearl Jam at Boston's House of Blues instead of some piss poor excuse of a show in a basketball arena.
