A Rod?
This one is easy: if the voting culture changes, yes; otherwise, no.Bammer wrote:A Rod?

how about david ortiz?MattA75 wrote:Hell noBammer wrote:A Rod?
From what I've read, it seems like once more Boomers are replaced with Xers, the voting culture you mention will happen.Simple Torture wrote:This one is easy: if the voting culture changes, yes; otherwise, no.Bammer wrote:A Rod?
I don't know when and if that sea change will occur. I know there are some writers who are very vocal about the fact that they're fine voting for PED users--I probably would be, too--but it doesn't seem to be a high percentage.
It'll change when a bunch of old guys die.Simple Torture wrote:This one is easy: if the voting culture changes, yes; otherwise, no.Bammer wrote:A Rod?

I'm a yes on Ortiz and I'll admit I'm fully biased on him...it's almost impossible to be a Red Sox fan and not be biased with regards to himlennytheweedwhacker wrote:how about david ortiz?MattA75 wrote:Hell noBammer wrote:A Rod?
Unless I'm a total fucking idiot (opened the door there, didn't I) ... a retired player only has so many years worth of votes and then they come off the ballot for good. So this change would have to occur significantly in, what, 20 years from now if he retires this year? Something like that? 5 year waiting period then 15 years on the ballot?Green Habit wrote:From what I've read, it seems like once more Boomers are replaced with Xers, the voting culture you mention will happen.Simple Torture wrote:This one is easy: if the voting culture changes, yes; otherwise, no.Bammer wrote:A Rod?

15 years on the ballot assuming you receive the right percentage (whatever it is) to stay on year after yearBammer wrote:Unless I'm a total fucking idiot (opened the door there, didn't I) ... a retired player only has so many years worth of votes and then they come off the ballot for good. If I'm not mistaken, the bar is ridiculously low--like 5% to stay on the ballot. And I'm pretty sure they just reduced the years you can stay on the ballot to ten, but if your first year on the ballot was before the change, you can stay on for 15.MattA75 wrote:15 years on the ballot assuming you receive the right percentage (whatever it is) to stay on year after yearBammer wrote:Unless I'm a total fucking idiot (opened the door there, didn't I) ... a retired player only has so many years worth of votes and then they come off the ballot for good. realistically, what do you think his offensive numbers would like if he did have to field a position for the majority of each season?MattA75 wrote:I'm a yes on Ortiz and I'll admit I'm fully biased on him...it's almost impossible to be a Red Sox fan and not be biased with regards to himlennytheweedwhacker wrote:how about david ortiz?MattA75 wrote:Hell noBammer wrote:A Rod?
Yet somehow a guy like Lou Whitaker who should be in, didnt stay on past the first ballot.Simple Torture wrote:If I'm not mistaken, the bar is ridiculously low--like 5% to stay on the ballot. I don't think he would've lasted, he can barely do what he does nowlennytheweedwhacker wrote:realistically, what do you think his offensive numbers would like if he did have to field a position for the majority of each season?MattA75 wrote:I'm a yes on Ortiz and I'll admit I'm fully biased on him...it's almost impossible to be a Red Sox fan and not be biased with regards to himlennytheweedwhacker wrote:how about david ortiz?MattA75 wrote:Hell noBammer wrote:A Rod?
Good thing there's enough safeties (Dawkins, Lynch, Atwater, Reed, Polamalu) that played when he did to push him into the Hall of Very Good zone on football merits alone.E.H. Ruddock wrote:Guess Darren Sharper won't be
