Disabled people have a phrase: "Nothing About Us Without Us." We will not be represented or spoken for/about unless we are involved. It's a fine aim, but sadly not one we're likely to see realised in my lifetime.

I mean no offence for what I've said here, guys, and my opinion means nothing. Just postings.

I'm just annoyed that people are such stalwart defenders of Colbert that they can't admit he might've made a mistake in the writing.

What I've learned from this: Don't make fun of Asians and nobody gives a fuck about Native Americans.

You didn't know before that nobody gives a fuck about Native Americans? I'm glad Colbert helped you become more aware of their plight.

I just wish Native Americans had enough social mobility to make satire about themselves on national TV. I doubt they'd be interested in offending Asians.

We live in deeply racist societies. That's the problem, not a hashtag.

I doubt most are for intentionally offending Asians. But you're right, Native Americans have no voice.

Most people aren't about intentionally offending at all, and yet they do, repeatedly. Most prejudice happens by accident, and often because self-advocacy for oppressed people groups (Native Americans and Asians, in this case) is diminished in favour of white people's right to freedom of speech. There have been Native American self-advocating groups campaigning for a change in the Redskins name for ages, and their voices haven't been prioritised by Colbert OR by the rage against Twitter. All that's being defended is Colbert's right to speak. If I was going to suggest something that would have been better than Colbert's joke, it would be either that he didn't joke about it at all, just informed his audience, or perhaps that he gave the job to a Native American guest. I'm not saying that nobody can speak for anyone else, but speaking for others who aren't you does not tend to make for great satire. People have got it wrong before Colbert.

A flippant statement can get a flippant response.

But, in this case it did. When did you find out the Washington Redskins existed? Dan Snyder? Instead you choose to make a stink about Colbert. Really? A joke foundation? Because Asians are so oppressed in America?

So, should I not laugh when a comic puts on his white guy voice and pokes fun at my stereotypical behavior? I should be offended because I have no rhythm and I can't dance? Or, is that okay because I'm white and I hold the keys to the fucking planet? Everything just falls out of the fucking sky, for me.

That feeling when you think everybody in the thread is wrong.

This is how I imagine Heathen feels in OB all the time.
