I've been having a ton of fun running in the mountains lately.

I scouted a new run for tomorrow this afternoon. Pretty psyched.

I went with the widest shoe in the store and it's a Brooks ghost 11.

No, you're right. I could get away with it when I was younger. I'm 35 now and just can't slack on it anymore. I read David Goggins book. He talked a lot about stretching and how it basically is the key to his ability to grind like he does now that he is older.
Why would you be taking running advice from David Goggins?

I didn't take it as running advice really. I read his book because it was interesting to me how someone can be so insane. There was a message there somewhere that resonated with me. Channeling your pain maybe. I get he is not someone most runners look to but he's also gotten results that a lot of those snobs could only dream of.

I love ultra running because of the community it brings. Trail/ultra guys are the best.

But many runners hate ultra running and people like Goggins and Dean Karnazes because they simply aren't great runners. People win ultras all the time by slogging out 9 to 10-minute miles. Ultra runners tend to be unfocused (like myself) in their running, lots of junk miles without specific workout runs like tempo stuff and repeats.

Also, a fast marathon hurts way more than 100 miles.

Pretty sure Goggins has BQd his marathon time. My take on Goggins is a lot of people seem threatened by him for whatever reason. He's flawed but one hard motherfucker.

Slow trot after a week off. Achilles feels a bit better, maybe 75%. Hoping to maybe do 20 miles a week until winter and then go into hibernation to heal up completely.

Whatever makes you feel better about the cultural signifiers you've adopted in the place of a personality, Bryan.

It's not really about any of us, in the end.
