Considering he probably didn't want to be found, or leave his hermit rock cave, ditching his xwing in the water makes sense.

We also know from ROTJ that xwings are waterproof, so he could raise it again if required.

It doesn't seem like that big of a mystery to me.

Either way, "game changer" is kind of stretching it. I thought we all knew it was going to be someone that has been around forever, knew the events of the past, therefore we all assumed he could be someone we know. *shrugs*

It never occurred to me it could be palpatine. Not even once. Now I'm thinking it is.
That's a game changer in my mind.
