What movies are you watching?

I saw Stewart in it live at BAM a while back. It was really good. And I like Joel Coen's version more than most people did. But the Polanski version is still the gold standard (dumb fucking floating knife aside).

Macbeth (2010) - After rewatching this one, I think it's absolutely genius. The change of setting to some wartorn 20th century dictatorship works perfectly. Macbeth as a sadistic Stalin figure and satanic nurse witches in a bunker hospital are very cool. Stewart may sometimes overdo it, but other times he's brilliant. The Macduff scenes are genuinely heartbreaking as well. 10 stars! Worth seeking out I think.

Macbeth (2015) - rewatch. The best looking and most cinematic of the bunch, and I like the choices it makes with what to keep and cut. It also does the best job with Lady Macbeth and her turn to broken woman, too.

Macbeth (1971) - Weakest leads by far. Looks nice, but kind of rote and superficial retelling IMO. Probably shouldn't have watched this one last, as it doesn't offer many surprises.

Macbeth (2019) - the opposite problem. Denzel and Frances are great, but otherwise it's pedestrian. Not a lot of risks taken. Disappointing, but not terrible.

Sometimes I put certain movies on even though I know I won't be able to pay full attention.
Movies I've re-watched a bunch of times and still enjoy, I think these deserve their own little category.
I thought about this last night while I was multitasking and put on "Extract" (2009).
I guess with "King Of The Hill" coming back, and after loving "Common Side Effects" so much, I've been on a Mike Judge kick.
What a great little movie "Extract" is though. We tend to think about "Office Space" or "Idiocracy" when talking about a Mike Judge movie, but this one is my jam.
Also the cast is stacked (Bateman, Wiig, Affleck, Simmons, Kunis, among others).

I'm gonna watch Ballerina, the Ana de Armas starring John Wick spinoff, this afternoon. I'm not especially excited about it, I think the John Wick movies are mostly just OK, but the movie theater is literally right next to my orthopedist and I have a couple hours to kill before my appointment

The movie: Yeah it's just another John Wick movie. There are moments where the action scenes are creative and stylish and moments where they're just numbing and tiresome. There's a cool flamethrower fight scene near the end, and they do some interesting things with shadows and silhouette, but it's ultimately just another John Wick movie. You almost forget about it as soon as it's over.

The appointment: The doctor thinks it's rotator cuff tendinopathy, likely from a fall a few months ago. Nothing serious, just need some targeted PT.

I rewatched Zero Dark Thirty last night. I still like this move but I still think Chris Pratt is out of place in it. Maybe not even his fault, but there was a shell of his "goofy" style of acting that wanted to just break out. I know it is a minor role but I found myself thinking about it during the peak of the raid on the compound instead of focusing on the movie.
