I just started my biennial playthrough of the Last of Us. Playing it on Grounded difficulty, making each combat scenario super intense. It looks incredible on the PS4 pro with HDR and 4k.

It really forces you to be more strategic with ammo conservation and choosing when to fight or flee. You often are forced to use hand to hand melee combat for humans and human-like clickers, making it much more violent and personal. I think it "grounds" the story and characters as well.

That sounds like the way it was meant to play. May have to try that approach.

You should. After Nioh of course.

Would anyone be interested in a best video game tournament?

Certainly interested in the concept, but it's gonna be difficult considering some of the best games ever are console exclusives. How would we tackle that?

Everyone could draft a team of 5-8 games and then we could do a round robin tournament, RM style.

Perhaps each team would pick a game in a couple different genres and then a few wild cards. I think it would be fun.

Ex.
Platformer - Mario 3
RPG - Mass Effect 2
Puzzle - Tetris
Fighting - Street Fighter 2
Wildcard - Pokemon Go

etc.

Yea, that could work. A few games might work for multiple genres (are the more recent Zelda games RPGs or sandbox games, for example). Should we further try to delineate by console generation, or maybe just comes to some understanding on "aging"?

Including all generations would probably be the easiest. The genre thing was just an idea, needs some honing.

Yea, I agree that all generations should be included, but I wonder if the earlier brackets should be sorted by generation? That way Super Mario Bros doesn't lose to Goldeneye early on, you know? And then the finals brackets would be the best of each respective generation (Atari gen, NES gen, Sega/SNES/TG16/NeoGeo gen, and then the four gens after that would be seven rounds to start. So maybe we do an arcade-exclusive round to make an even eight? Or perhaps PC games? The Sierra/Lucasarts years deserve some respect.

I was thinking it would be a team based tournament where different posters would draft their team snake style with others. Then we could vote on our favorite team in head to head matchups. If we do a traditional tournament I have a good idea of what would be on top. The drafting adds a strategic element.

The MP is endlessly fun. And I'm actually pretty good at it, unlike most online MP games. Between the shooting, grappling, and titans, the gameplay always feels dynamic and varied, and loaded with memorable moments.
