Cool cool. I got so burned out on shooters a few years ago. Battlefront is really about the only one I've played since. I do want to check out Titanfall 2 at some point.LoathedVermin72 wrote:The MP is endlessly fun. And I'm actually pretty good at it, unlike most online MP games. LV, have you found the titan battles to be fun? When I played the beta, I loved the ground game but found the titans to be super button-mashy. The HUD just made it too hard to really know what the hell was going on.Monkey_Driven wrote:Cool cool. I got so burned out on shooters a few years ago. Oh yeah, I love the titans. I'm not sure what (if anything) has changed since the beta since I never played it, but I don't think it's button mash-y at all. You really only have 3 or 4 functions in a titan, so it's pretty easy to keep track of them once you get to know them.tragabigzanda wrote:LV, have you found the titan battles to be fun? This game just creates immersive, fun fantasy unlike any other I've ever played. I think my favorite moment in any match so far was this: I grappled onto a friendly titan and rode it around, trying to help the pilot take out enemies. I noticed an enemy pilot on a rooftop with an anti-titan gun trying to kill the titan I was riding, so I grappled onto the rooftop, came up behind the enemy, executed him, then grappled back onto the titan and kept riding it.
Come on, that is just insanely awesome.

SMB3 is in my top 3 of all time. I'll go to my deathbed saying it is better than Super Mario World.ABNorman wrote:SMB3 beats Goldeneye handily for me. (SMB1 isn't particularly great).tragabigzanda wrote: That way Super Mario Bros doesn't lose to Goldeneye early on, you know?

Halfway through the Last of Us I can confirm it is the best video game of the past 5 years or so.

Interested to see if 2017 can add some games to the list. There's some serious potential this year.

Absolutely. Between Nioh, Breath of the Wild, For Honor, Horizon, Persona 5, Mass Effect, Mario Odyssey, and Red Dead there is some serious firepower. Most of the games are in the first half of the year too.jwfocker wrote:Interested to see if 2017 can add some games to the list. There's some serious potential this year.

I have high hopes for horizon. Hopefully it builds on a lot of the Far Cry ideas in the same way Nioh used the Dark Souls mechanics and concepts.

I wouldn't include Journey. I'd add The Witcher.jwfocker wrote:Monkey_Driven wrote:My Favorite Games of this Decade so far ('10-now) in no particular order:jwfocker wrote:Monkey_Driven wrote:Halfway through the Last of Us I can confirm it is the best video game of the past 5 years or so.

I'd probably add the original Dark Souls too. Witcher 3 is great but it's almost too huge. If that can be an issue. A lot of good first person shooters that could be added but that's not really my bag.

Nioh looks boring to me (I don't really like hack and slash).Monkey_Driven wrote:Absolutely. Breath of the Wild looks amazing, jealous of you Switch owners.
For Honor E3 footage was killer, but I did watch some gameplay footage from the beta last week, and my enthusiasm came down a few pegs. It also looks like a hack and slash, albeit a more advanced one.
Horizon -- Funny that someone mentioned they hoped it would build on Far Cry. I was watching footage a few days ago, and thought "It looks like a more boring Far Cry." But I will still try to check it out.
Persona 5 -- I have no idea what this is.
Mass Effect I've never played, but LV and the footage have piqued my interest.
Mario Odyssey looks like a bad game to me.
I will definitely be getting Red Dead Redemption 2.

Not a fan of Super Mario 64 or Sunshine? This appears to be a spiritual successor to both.
Also, I don't think Nioh is a hack and slash, it is very strategic and brutally difficult. More of an action puzzle game.

I loved Mario 64, didn't play sunshine. But the real-world setting looks like a total buzzkill.Monkey_Driven wrote:?????tragabigzanda wrote:Nioh looks boring to me (I don't really like hack and slash).Monkey_Driven wrote:Absolutely. Yea, not sure about Bloodborne, Nioh, games of that ilk. I watch footage, and the fighting seems similar to Assassin's Creed: attack, attack, attack, block, wait, attack. I don't really enjoy that. But if there's much more to it than that, then perhaps I'm missing something?

Re: The all inclusive video game thread
It looks like it but Nioh is a lot more complicated than hack and slash. If you do that you're just going to die over and over again, throw your controller, and return the game.
it's similar to Bloodborne but Nioh takes it to another level. You have to monitor your stamina, use something called a ki pulse to get your stamina back up, dodge, and parry. I'm still working on the parry skill. There's other bits to fighting too like your living weapon gauge, ninja skills and magic skills.
Plus, each weapon has it's own set of combos and skills. Once you begin to get the hang of it the fighting is bad ass and so smooth.
