You're claiming to have heard Idioteque more times than Last Kiss in public? And it's due to the coolness of the coffee shops you frequent?
Please, for the greater good: give yourself an uppercut.
You got to understand I lived in Portland, OR 2001-2005, then Cambridge, MA 2005-2010. It’s like a perfect venn diagram of hipster coffee shops and the birth of Rdio.
I've lived in NYC since 2007 and I've never heard Idioteque in the wild. Never.
Very different from Cambridge. You got that MIT hipster nerd set.
I'm just saying... the word "hipster" doesn't exist in modern vernacular without Brooklyn... and zero Idioteques...

I haven't heard Idioteque outside of my apartment in over 15 years, though I have heard National Anthem out once or twice.

Last Kiss is grocery store fodder where I'm from, so I can't relate.
I also just flat out don't believe you.

tragabigzanda wrote:Yeah Last Kiss definitely got a ton of major radio play at the time of release outside Boston; all the jocks were into it which was weird.
I've occasionally heard Last Kiss played in my parents' retirement community. Does this mean Pearl Jam is still relevant?

Seems insensitive to play that song around people who have lost their life partners and are just counting down the days.

There was a girl in college who I was trying to hit up until she said that PJ's Last Kiss was the most embarrassing thing song she'd ever heard....
Needless to say I quit that pursuit.

Glad to hear Pearl Jam anywhere.

100 and something pages later we are talking about the spotify relevence of it all again!
In my country RHCP took about 6 months to sold out a gig…Pearl Jam took 24 hours. So does that mean they are more relevant from this point of view?
We dont even have Apple Music numbers…maybe that will make Creed the most relevant band!
We really need this thing to leak already…

Pearl Jam is obviously only relevant if I care about the demographic(s) they're reaching

For real. Also, who the fuck cares? My enjoyment of a gig has nothing to do with how quickly it sold out, or how many monthly listeners they have.
Insecure, dropkick boomers smdh

Trag living in a section of the country that loves Radiohead makes all the sense in the world to me.

Ha. As I predicted, the final of the three songs used for March Madness is…..
The already released Dark Matter.
Can’t make it up. How boring and unoriginal. Btw all of the three songs seemed heavily chopped.

That was like downright vanilla. PDX at that time? Lots of Boards of Canada, The Notwist, DNTEL…I’m honestly surprised to hear others had a different experience in the early aughts.
Not gonna lie- I love Radiohead, Boards of Canada and The Notwist.
