No shit.

This Lester thing is starting to really piss me off. This is exactly what we knew the Red Sox would do. They'd put together a "competitive offer" knowing damned well that it would end up being 2nd or 3rd best and they could try and save face with the fans when he signs with another team.

Well they haven't saved face with anyone that has a clue. I don't see how they think they are going to get a #1 any cheaper than what Lester is going for.

Seriously, 6/140-150 is as cheap as an ace is going to come. Any trade for someone that good would involve emptying the farm system.

And you'd only get that guy for a year before being in this situation again.

A Sale - Quintana - Samardzija - Rodon rotation could make for a fun summer on the South Side.
no reason why they wouldn't be instant contenders
Still big holes at LF, 2B, and catcher. Considering they were all negatives last year, maybe it won't be that hard to upgrade.

I still think the White Sox finish third in their division next year.

They'll be in striking distance of the second wild card. Like many other teams, if the bullpen is good, they'll be good. Bullpens are such a roll of the dice. Robertson could very well suck next year.

We haven't heard from you in the MLB thread in forever. I'm sure your recent posts have nothing to do with the White Sox making some moves this offseason. ;)

Haha, baseball's been taking a back seat for the last 2-3 years. They've been bad (not even entertainingly bad) and I just don't have time to sit and watch 3 hour games like i used to other than to laugh at Hawk. So yeah, with Samardzija now in the fold, this is the most intrigued i've been about baseball since the Adam Dunn signing :shake:

Not at all surprised with the move, when you have a guy like Sale locked up, and now Abreu, rebuilding is out of the equation.

It seems like the right move right now. They have a star pitcher and star hitter to build around, and it seems like they're being pretty aggressive in building around those guys. The worst thing a team can do in that situation is to settle into some kind of middle ground.

Does their farm system still suck? It's been pretty awful for a while now.

They're middle of the field now, which is a big accomplishment from where they were.

The white sox are easily a WC contender, and possibly a division contender if Detroit doesn't improve their bullpen.

Reports are that it's down to the Red Sox and Cubs for Lester. Take it for what it's worth (considering last night Rosenthal was reporting it was down to the Cubs and Giants).

It's time for Lester to shit or get off the pot, he's holding up the entire offseason. If he's loathe to returning to Boston, just sign with the Cubs and be done with it.

Agreed. If he wants to go back to Boston because it's "home," just sign the fuck already.

It'll be the Cubs, I don't think the Red Sox interest is all that genuine.
