moneyball last night

it was slightly more interesting than the RM thread

I didn't enjoy Zodiac. At all.

But everything else on the list is top shelf...never saw Benjamin Button though.

People either love or hate Benjamin Button. I think it's pretty glorious. But I'm about the only one on RM.

The concept is interesting..i'll put it on my list.

John Wick was a mess.

Just watched an awesome little movie on Netflix called Escape, which I highly recommend. A lean, efficient adventure/chase thriller set in 1600s Norway. Strong characters and some healthy metaphorical subtext for those interested. But more importantly, it is confident, cinematic, and satisfying. A small movie that feels like a big movie. I thought it was a breath of fresh air.

Fury. Irresponsible war porn. Twenty stars. Great fun.

Actually, the ending is bullshit, but everything else leading up to it was solid.

Just finished Venus in Fur. Some of Polanski's most brilliant work ever. A fucking masterpiece.

Just watched the second Hunger Games movie.

Gonna see Gone Girl this weekend.

The play was a revelation. I want to see the film, but I just can't imagine anyone but Nina Arianda playing Vanda. She gave one of the single greatest performances I've ever seen in my life (either stage or film).

I wonder how much of the brilliance was Polanski and how much was the play...

Steven Spielberg directed & Steven Bochco wrote the first official episode of "Columbo", ('Murder By The Book').

Fury was very good, close to great. Unfortunately, the last act was a step down from the rest of the film, which was excellent. It's incredible that Ayer managed to bring a fresh, intense angle to something we've seen over and over (WWII).

The last act was so bad. If the Nazis fought like that the war would have lasted about a week. The rest was really fun to watch, though.

The whole "last stand" concept kinda seemed to come out of nowhere. They never really sold the tank as "home" thing enough for that to feel natural. It seemed like something out of a different movie.
