I'm not reading this the way you guys are (big surprise!) because:
- They have gotten together in the studio 4-5 times and have lots of material, according to Stone.
- They've toured on an off over the last 3 years, and by all experiences have been joyful events among the band

So, they are not short on material and they are not afraid of or in conflict with one another. Neither of those factors seem to be the problem.

I believe the problem is creative direction. And, yes, maybe they just don't like the material they've come up with so far. So, yeah, maybe it's a creative dry spell. Or, they just don't know how to move forward from this point, after a HoF induction and CC's passing and DT's election, I'm guessing what might be going through his mind might be that if they're going to put something out, it should add something new to the catalogue, or it should somehow encompass all of what they are feeling given the aforementioned events.

Another thought behind it is just the music industry. This is an album oriented band, and what do albums mean anymore? If they are going to spend 6 weeks finishing off their material, they don't want it to just disappear into the ether like everything these days, so what's the point? I'm thinking all of these questions might be going through their minds.

I'm not really sure that a creative dry-spell has hindered them putting out an album

Do you guys even want a new album? Like, stop and think about it. Think about the quality of their last couple records. Think about “Can’t Deny Me”. Do you really, truly care about this? Deep down?

I still like Backspacer, so I still have hope for a good record

of course we do, RM's cynicism in growing stale, and a new album will definitely push things forward

several threads can benefit from a new albums. PRAMG and Ed Art, among others.

plus, we get to see how many ocean/waves reference Ed can come up with!

They could still put out an awesome album

I'm more interested in the discussion and certain posters' viewpoints than I am in the actual music, to be honest.

I will listen to one with an open mind, but this will be the first one that I really haven't looked forward to in any way.

I always want and look forward to new stuff. In fact they just should have went Neil Young and not been precious and released 2 or 3 records in the last six years.

But man I really hope it doesn't end up being Cut The Crap level.

this band is basically broken up

they play a couple shows a year for charity

otherwise won’t even spend a few weeks together over the next 52 weeks in order to put out an album

they all have side projects

they stopped issuing a holiday single

this is what retirement looks like

when was the beginning of the end for this band?

- when tim bierman was brought into the fold?
- when b o.'b. was brought back into the fold?
- when eddie decided to, in fact, suck satan's dick, marry a model, and become mr. hollywood celebrity?

when the sony deal ended and they had no tangible requirement to make music anymore

I would agree to the point of the mishandling of it. The music itself for the most part is good, but production, etc. really failed it, and nothing after it was any good
