What do citizens of the United States refer to themselves as?
Americans. That or citizens of the United States.
People from USA just do refer to themselves as Americans and the United States as "America". I think it's more a custom than a "mistake". we technically know USA vs north America vs. South America etc. It's just something we say . Slang or whatever

i read that. It still a valid point. And i dont think its slang but more to do with their historic disinterest in anything outside their country or culture.

If you want to be American, you should have put America in the name of your country!

Every country in the world belongs to America. (Couldn't find the right clip, but its from some anime)
Also, that whole Monroe doctrine thing. We are the core of the Americas, you are the periphery. You are an extension of us. Maybe its a difference of capital A Americans vs lower case a americans.

There's no alternate to "American" for the nationality of citizens of the U.S. Stay mad at shit that happened before you got independence from Spain or Portugal (or the 2 of you that have some strange relationship to the Netherlands to this day).

Its a bit reminiscent of when Northern Californians and Southern Californians meet at a state university and the use of an article prior to a freeway number betrays the speaker as a Southern Californian.
This silliness doesn't last much beyond orientation, but it is fun for as long as it endures.

It's worthy of a thread and likely has one, but the self-dealing of these people really makes my skin crawl:

Do we have a facial recognition thread? Would using the bottom half of someone else's face beat it?

this is really surprising because i thought canada was perfect and pure
Black people living in Toronto are far more likely to be injured or killed in interactions with city police, Ontario’s Human Rights Commission said Monday as it called on the force to deal with what it described as a serious problem.
The findings were contained in an interim report on the commission’s probe into racial profiling and discrimination by the Toronto Police Service.
After analyzing numbers from the force as well as an agency that investigates police complaints, Chief Commissioner Renu Mandhane said the data – including a finding that black people were nearly 20 times more likely to die in a police shooting than their white counterparts – should stand as proof that the force needs to take urgent action.

It's not hypocritical to be against government handouts and to exploit government programs that you are forced to pay for (particularly when the government forced shutdowns). It's restitution.
Rand was quite clear about it:

I'm no Randian objectivist, but this constant straw man that libertarians can't call the fire dept. if their house is on fire is really dumb.
Stealing from thieves is perfectly acceptable under libertarianism.
