All this talk in this thread may or may not matter. The way this thing plays out the next 6 months is probably all the matters at this point.

i dunno a bunch of 200-person sample polls conducted by lake titicaca university on landline asking about the nuances of people's interior decorating preferences under different P/VP ticket combinations is probably more informative

Hmmm...
Biden says Trump failed to hold China accountable on coronavirus:
How does RM feel about the Twitter conspiracy theory that the DNC is planning to have Biden step down after the convention due to "health concerns" (i.e. his obvious cognitive decline) and replace him with someone like Harris (who would presumably have been his VP pick already)?
Seems extremely far fetched and like a good way to lose the election to me but that doesn't necessarily mean it's not possible, since it rests on the non-conspiracy question of what the party plans to do about the fact that Biden can barely string a coherent thought together.

Just replace him with Michelle Obama already, so people can stop being anxious about it. I know she doesn't want it, but it's the right thing to do.

You think if they do replace him it has to be someone who didn't run in the primary?

Well, they did let Bernie keep his delegates... so there's that...

Yes. Unless Biden himself decides to step down. Which I think is EXTREMELY unlikely. But if he does, I don't think it'll be because the DNC forced him to. And then even if he steps down they won't replace him with Harris. There are maybe some individual parts of the conspiracy theory that are higher than 0%. But as a whole, as you pitched it, 0%.

Well, I don't think they would actually do it. But if they did, it doesn't make sense to do it with someone who did poorly in the primaries. I do not understand, at all, the push for Harris as VP. She's a woman of color who did worse with minorities than many of the white candidates. Her appeal is yet to be anything more than theoretical.

I totally agree and yet I still think her selection as VP is a foregone conclusion.

That mirrors how I'm feeling--the idea that they're actively planning this, or worse, that they coalesced around Biden because they figured this would be possible, is both too simplistic and too paranoid (like most conspiracy theories). But I think there are some elements here that could be possible, or rather, that it responds to a real anxiety.
