I didn't say the father should be punished for telling the kid that. He should do time for irresponsible ownership.

Even if that's true it doesn't really change the situation that much beyond being another example of media using a "narrative" in place of a "fact" to get clicks.

The students still thought it was the shooter and behaved as such... their fear... their behavior is what resonates in that video. And parents it's one thing to know your kid has done active shooter drills, it's another to see it played out in a real situation where you could easily imagine your child in that room.

When I was in first grade, an older girl brought her dads handgun on the bus. This was 1987. She took it out of her backpack, waved it around, let some of the other kids hold it. I think about that sometimes.

Here in Maine, HS students in a certain class can bring their guns in and learn to clean and care for them. The gun racks in the backs of their trucks in the parking lot are an odd site if you're not used to it.
