Yeah, not exactly a slam dunk. The mom's text is pretty damning, a jury is not going to like that. What percentage of parents, upon hearing there's a shooting at their kid's school assumes that its their kid doing the shooting?

If they had a normalish kid and didn't have the gun locked up, I don't know how you get manslaughter. That they had what sounds like a disturbed spoiled little shit on the other hand...

From afar, I feel this trial may get very polarizing and may actually change some attitudes.

Nah, we all know moms are the problem.

I don't think safe storage laws are particularly contentious, as long as there are carveouts for parent approved activities like hunting and whatnot. They also aren't super useful as they only kick in after a tragedy occurs.

If parents don't have the sense that something is off with their kid, there's no legislation that can fix that.
