Many reasons, but for starters: I think he’s a genre stylist who constantly fights his nature to the detriment of his movies. That’s why Tenet is his one total success for me: it’s an exercise in genre style that’s unencumbered by Nolan’s usual, desiccating obsession with logic. He’s free to just work and move and the movie actually winds up somewhere fun and meaningful because of that.

Basically, Nolan is a dumb guy who thinks he’s smart. He should embrace being dumb, because he could make much better movies if he did.
