We really enjoyed Obsession. Fun horror. See it in a packed theater.

Also, we were very much in the demographic minority. TONS of high schoolers there, with even more throngs incoming as we left the theater. I think this is a great portent of the future of the theatergoing experience.

OK, I watched some more movies that I've never seen before from the list of 1000 greatest movies over at theyshootpictures.com. I'm trying to finish the list before I turn 40.

I watched three more episodes of Les Vampires, meaning I have now watched 7 of 10 episodes. Nearly there.

I also watched the Judy Garland musical Meet Me in St Louis. Not really my kind of movie but the ending did kind of get to me emotionally. I think this means maybe I'm more of a sucker than that the movie is all that great.

I also watched the three films on the list by Mizoguchi that I haven't seen before. Life of Oharu was alright, mainly just watching this poor woman get bad break after bad break her whole life. Chikamatsu monogotari was pretty good actually, but even still Mizoguchi was never my favorite guy and this didn't do much for me. It was the most interesting of the three. Street of Shame is Mizoguchi's final film. Kind of interesting, but again, a bit of just watching some poor women get bad break after bad break after bad break. Depressing, as it was well meant to be. Good at both being preachy about abolishing prostitution in modern Japan, but not being simplistic or judgemental about it. There's no evil villains or obvious solutions and it looks at the problems in the present and the future right in the face. An admirable film, perhaps, just not something that grabs me

Loved Backrooms, fascinating movie. Vital and creative and weird and FUN!!! It’s not just some pretentious, dour, minimalist, “elevated” bullshit with contempt for its audience and no payoff - it’s an intense adventure with monsters and scope and vision. It’s cosmic horror for a disillusioned society. There are no old gods - only an endless and endlessly replicating dirge of tacky capitalist ephemera in the face of which we feel powerless and insignificant. I had a great time!
