I can picture them not releasing the 2nd album and not making up those tour dates, though.

It’s happening but not done.

https://www.spin.com/2022/03/pearl-jam- ... our-dates/
After the first North American leg ends, Pearl Jam will embark on a previously announced European tour June 18 at the Pinkpop festival in the Netherlands. And at some point during breaks in the 2022 show schedule, the band will continue working on the as-yet-untitled follow-up to Gigaton with 2020 Grammy producer of the year Andrew Watt, who served in the same role on Vedder’s latest solo album, Earthling and played with Klinghoffer in Vedder’s band during the accompanying tour.

“We’ve recorded a little bit with him, so we’ve got some things going already, and they’re killer,” Gossard reveals. “We’re psyched. Andrew is a total character. Really, like immediately, we were writing quickly. Spontaneously. Bring in a riff. Let’s knock it out. [Drummer] Matt Cameron is playing his ass off. We didn’t bring any gear down. We were just doing some recording in Andrew’s basement in Beverly Hills, basically. So far, so good.”

Part of the fun of the early sessions has been that Watt is a professed Pearl Jam super-fan who “knows how to play all of our songs better than we do, and knows the catalog,” according to Gossard. “He’s known for some of his pop hits, which I personally love, but he really is a great musician and he knows the band well enough to know when we’re hitting something. His perspective has been great. I hope we continue with that process. It’s been fruitful, everything that we’ve done so far. We’ll see how long it takes to finish it off.”

Wow, this is pretty nuts. Another new album in the very near future might actually be happening huh?

Wow that’s promising. Stone never comments on anything, and seems very positive and excited (for once!)

I like the sound of this. They struck gold with Dance of Clairvoyants with this kind of spontaneous collaboration.

it also gave them Backspacer, so I don't think the approach is good or bad, I guess it depends on the day

it's fucking awesome to hear Stone is happy with what they're doing!

also I like that it sounds like Stone is saying "he's known for his pop hits (and I like those), but he really fits with us too, don't worry"

that's very reassuring!

I don't know. I feel like Backspacer was still mostly them individually bringing in their demos (and then Ed putting a little fixin' on them)

So, at this point, is it fair and safe to assume that Gigaton and Earthling were to the two albums that were rumored to drop at basically the same time in 2020? Some thought maybe there were 2 PJ records. Some thought PJ and an Ed solo record based on Jill's social media.

If they're still working on a new album with Watt, that must mean that there weren't 2 PJ albums ready to drop in 2020, right?

I have been wondering what that "waiting for Stevie" song they apparently wrote sounds like, and whether it's good news or bad news for the album

I still think the 1/2 of a set of lungs on the Gigaton spine is suspicious though. And "Side A" on the disc.

I don’t think so. Ed and Watt both said Ed really only had one song done when they got in the studio last summer.

yes that was weird

what if the thing they're recording now is the "second half"? it seems to be coming together quickly; could that be because they already had some stuff from Gigaton sessions?
