Re: Albums of 2020
I'm with ya. It's certainly not bad, and I'd say its undoubtedly an improvement on their last two albums before it, but it's lost so much of its "newness" appeal. I don't think I've listened to it all the way through since early April, and since then the only song i've listened to is DotC maybe a handful of times. Compared to a lot of stuff that's come out this year, I probably wouldn't even put it near my top 15 or 20 albums. And it's not like I'm over PJ. I've listened to a ton of S/T and earlier since GT came out. The album just doesn't do it for anymore.Mickey wrote:Call me underwhelmed. He's talking about the Fiona Apple album, which is incredible but also not my #1 (and not as good as her previous one)

My head
But yeah I agree with that too, to a lesser extent though. I think Fiona's album is fantastic, I just wouldn't put it in my number 1 spot.

Inlet by HUM is the best album I've heard in 2020 so far.

Gigaton being #1 isn't the most far fetched thing being we are on a pj message boardMickey wrote:Call me underwhelmed. Its prob my fav n most played 2020 album.. been waiting on new material for almost 10 years.. is it top tier pj, no.. but its their best album released in a long time
The new strokes is right up there with it for similar reasons.. i thought I'd never see another good strokes album, and ended up pleasantly surprised
As horrible a year as 2020 is, the music is great n ill post my list soon

On the flip side, it just all boils down to personal taste.. some people are fans of the pure rock sound.. everybodys jacking off to that Fiona album.. (where I admit, its good for her.. its no criminal still) I'm not gonna go blasting a fiona apple album for the neighbors to hear

I like Fiona when I'm in the mood but the new album isn't as good as Idler Wheel. Sometimes her songs just meander while trying to pass themselves off as something more fully formed.

That new Fiona Apple album hadn't even registered on my radar until I saw people talking about it here. Gave it a bit of a listen yesterday. Not my thing

It's an astonishing record. It just isn't as good as FTBC.cutuphalfdead wrote:The Idler Wheel is a fucking masterpiece.

Re: Albums of 2020
I have to admit (though I hate to) that the insufferable side of me loves how many people have turned on FTBC and act like it's nothing special. The shitty side of me totally thinks that justifies my ranking it at #1. Which, I actually thought was too obvious and not cool enough. I'm (sadly and embarrassingly) relieved to see that's not the case.
