The first few times I heard the first line I thought the way he stuttered the word 'love' was an expletive edited out (thank GOD it wasn't). Trag's initial attempt at the lyrics above only reinforced this in my mind

Listened twice when it dropped. Took a few hours and then listened again. Then was busy,forgot about it. Put it back on, with decent headphones. This song is a very clever, fun song, albeit with a darkness, and an inspired choice for first single.

Whether you love it, hate it, or aren't sure yet, I don't think any of us thought they had something like this in them.

I'm stoked.

One thing that sticks out on headphones there seems to be a mastering glitch or two?

I’m also curious if this is the single edit or the album version?

Jeff and stones quotes sound positively energised!

I would guess this is the album version rather than the 7" edit. It shows up as an album track on Apple Music.

4th listen and its really grown on me. Especially through headphones, which surprisingly made the vocals more tolerable.

The way the song naturally jams out really highlights how the producer change influenced the song writing. Eds vocals seemed to get quieter towards the end which sounded better to me. This song doesn't need a front and centre vocal that sits on top of the mix. The talking heads/killers the man sections still are a bit cringy.

My favourite part of PJs sound is the drum sound, which is why I like No Code to Riot Act the most. This album is probably going to fail in this regard, but id rather this new processed clean midi sounding drum than the flat squashed drums from the last 3 albums.

This has exceeded expectation for me. 7/10 I think the band finally remembered that, as long as their in the same room together making music, it can be called pearl jam. I still think when the hype wears off, this may be only on par with backspacer, depending on whether the whole album uses similar ideas and production techniques. It sounds very fresh at the moment though! The problem is the ratio of ED ruining songs is increasing album by album

It's a great track. Fair play to PJ for popping something like this out and surprising us all (positively or negatively).

It's also almost certainly going to be their "Miss You" moment, and the rest of the album will just be standard PJ rock tracks with one or two folk/acoustic numbers. This will bear no reflection on the style or musical pallet of the rest of Gigaton IMO.

I must have listened to this 20 times today, gotta say it's more enjoyable every time. I'm travelling so I only have the good earbuds, but sounds great on those.

On a whim I actually checked out CDM for probably only the 3rd or so time ever. Can't believe the improvement.

So so happy that Pearl Jam have pulled off something so good. And if it doesn't get my head nodding along as well!

I also thought this, there are some weird little glitchy sounding parts with the vocals, like they were recorded across different days with different mics or something.

This is the "edit" - ie. "Fuck" has been edited out.

The album version will have the word unedited. That's the only difference

I've played this song 3-4 times, I like it. The band's most noticeable first single pivot since NAIS.

It's already got more play from me than all of LB since it's release.

I can't stop thinking about how staggeringly bad Can't Deny Me is by comparison and that interview with Jeff where his frustration with the band's creative drive and direction was notably evident. Somehow, in the last 12-18 months, they got from there to here.

Even Ed sounds great on this....compare that with CDM.....

I assume the risk of sounding melodramatic but my God this song gave me all the feels. I have goosebumps... I became a fan in 99' and its quite possible this is the first time I have heard a new song by this band that produced this type of reaction from me.

It's really difficult for me to imagine anyone's reaction to this being anything than immediate joy and relief.

I put it on my headphones for the first time walking out of my office tonight and must have been grinning from ear to ear walking through the city.

It felt like a very welcome gift that I had no expectation I would ever receive.
