Mike definitely starts his solo way to late and Ed was a little pissed. Kinda ruined the momentum.

If the verse was different i would really really really like this song. But i'll reserve judgement until i hear the studio recording. Pre-Chorus tone and structure reminds me of Binaural which i really like. At this point i'll take whatever i can get.

The one in my head was produced by Brendan O'Brien pre-Backspacer, or in the full knowledge that Backspacer was the little pop experiment it was but now for something different.

yeah, i saw it more in the line of MFC, RVM, UK, undone...those songs...the "car" songs Ed use to write.
It has a lot of potential; the guitars have to sound a lot more angrier than in BS for that to happen.

Brendan, please listen to the guitars in Vs, Vitalogy, No Code and Yield. Do not listen to Riot Act and Backspacer.

Fair point. They're not musically alike though, and neither is any song we've accused of being an attempt at GTF really. ATW sounds more like Dissident without a riff.

I think this is Earth/Nature Vs not only man but the man god relationship.
There is also a surfing thing here with you gotta never let her go she is a lighting bolt line. Lightning bolt surf boards and always staying with your board.
Also Pearl Jam has never had a album title/ song title connection before. Why now? It must have big meaning to the band. Is the "She" the band the "he" any band members?

On the surface always something never nothing lyric is bad, but what about in the context of belief of a higher power. Then it becomes a simple stab at those that are unwilling to believe in nothing a sarcastic line with a really simple message. The lyric then becomes good or really good if you come from the same place as Ed.
