Oh, I watched the video again and Stone seems to be just playing regular electric guitar. But he is doing some strange things with his picking hand. I'm no guitarist. :haha: I don't know why I thought he had that slide guitar finger thing. But Mike is just playing acoustic.

Well, there's a slide guitar, or an ebow or something. I'm not a guitarist but I like to think I'd recognise those.

Ah, Stone might be using an Ebow. He's moving his picking hand as if he's using one.

Although Stone would probably look pretty funny with Jonsis Bow.

For a reminder of what the ebow sounds like, it's used on the lead guitar in "Wishlist".

Off Topic: I saw Sigur Ros in Germany outside at night this summer. It was so beautiful.

He can't get to an E bow out of, coming out of the finger-picking part... cause the first note is like on the one.

I guess you're right. Is he using this tremolo arm/bar thing?

I'm getting more and more confident that the religious / apocalyptic references in this song make sense in the album's context, even if it's first and foremost about Ed's wife.

Daniel 10:14

'Now I have come to help you understand what will happen to your people in the latter days, for the vision pertains to future days.'

'I believe, and I believe 'cause I can see.'

John 20:29

"Then Jesus told him, "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

This ain't just a love song.

Edit: the message being not 'about God', but about his wife. He rejects the Revelation future claptrap because all he needs is "our future days... you and me".

No offense, but that second quote - the one regarding "Thomas" the apostle, that one wasn't very hard to figure out. I would hope 90% of the people who heard that lyric knew what it meant as soon as they heard it. Ed's basically channeling Thomas and in a weird way not dissing Jesus either.

The first bible line you mentioned, I don't think has anything to do with the song. I don't think Ed picks on the Old Testament too often. He focuses on Jesus, therefore, the New Testament.

Anyway, I do think the song's slightly about God. But, I agree the focus is people (wife). Basically, humanism. He's implying he sees his love - probably referring to his kids. It's apocalyptic though, in my mind because of the other lyrics.

You've told me nothing I don't know here.

Things don't have to be "very hard to figure out" to be worth writing on a rock band's forum.

I know this. Just sayin' there's no code being cracked. It's pretty self-evident is all.

I'm very appreciative that I got to read another of your opinions tonight.

harmless, just apologize for wasting our time by drawing parallels between the lyrics & a Biblical passage. As a board full of Bible scholars, we're all kind of offended that you're reiterating exactly what 90% of us were apparently already thinking.
