R.E.M. and Pearl Jam have always flipped back-and-forth in my book. At the moment, I favor R.E.M.'s catalog.

Just a level set. All fans are annoying. Doesn't matter what they are a fan off.

Yeah, they're perfectly okay. I prefer everybody else in the band's contributions to Jim's cornball Vegas croon and 'Halloween sound effects record' attempts to sound threatening...but even that can be enjoyable when the time is right.theplatypus wrote:Another reason The Doors get a bad rap is because their fans tend to be incredibly annoying. I don't think they're terrible, but I do find them mostly pretty boring.
Some of the live performances are pretty wild. It's mostly just everything around them that's excruciating.

That reminds me of the line "teacher leave those kids alone". There was a kid in high school who was so into Pink Floyd that he took that shit seriously and dropped out of school. I imagine his parents were pretty annoyed.Kaius wrote:leave him alonetheplatypus wrote:Some fans are more annoying than others thoughbada wrote:Just a level set. All fans are annoying. Sorry, but D.A.R.E. led me to believe that the consequences would be far worse than that.

re: that Kids In the Hall bit,
re: annoying fans. I'm not so sure PJ fans are any less annoying than Doors fans. I know I've probably over-sold both bands at times, and those guys in the Pit are, well, you know. Like what was stated above, all fans are annoying. You see this across art and sports. In sports other fans are "idiots" or whatever.
re: Doors are boring. Man, I don't think so at all. Sure the hits are overplayed, but they have some deeper cuts that are really top-notch, particularly on LA Woman; The Changeling, Been Down So Long, L'America, and Hyacinth House come to mind. Additionally, the songs "Strange Days", "Not To Touch The Earth", "Peace Frog", "Waiting For The Sun", and "You're Lost Little Girl are far from boring in my book.
I also like how they kinda change from album to album, similar to what we credit Pearl Jam for doing (Ten doesn't sound like Vitalogy, which doesn't sound like No Code, which doesn't sound like Binaural). The first album has a much different vibe than 'Strange Days' which has a completely different vibe than 'The Soft Parade', which has a completely different vibe than 'Morrison Hotel'. All the while, it still sounds like the Doors, just as Binaural still sounds like Pearl Jam.

That's pretty much my take. Occasionally I'll seek them out though. My wife hates them. She can tolerate like two songs, but the rest, are not for her.numbers wrote:I still like The Doors, they arent the greatest thing ever, but I dont change the song when they come up on the shuffle.
