Jeremy (live) always slays. Funny bc the studio version was played ad nauseum and it’s not a track I can listen to by myself, kind of ever. But I always want them to play it live. That outtro booms, the whole arena is belting their lungs out, and PJ and Ed just bash it all out. Great times. Black never disappoints live too.

I’m all for ‘well played’ or ‘creative adaptations’ of covers. ‘Fuckin Up’ blows the roof off. Baba O’Reilly usually does too. Purple Rain is usually an average bar cover band version when PJ plays it. Only the diehards dig it. It’s a fuckin long song, and a momentum killer. It is a waste of a live track opportunity for PJ. Why not just play more pearl jam songs instead?

PJ’s pink floyd covers usually suck too.
Fuckin Up is their best cover by far. So, of course, they rarely play it.
It was pretty much a staple for a while, tho.
Yes, mostly back in 2000, which was arguably their live peak - 23 years ago. That said, I still think they're playing well.
I was thinking 93-94

Current Pearl Jam ages, based on quick google search:

Ed: 58
Jeff: 60
Stone: 57
Mike: 57
Matt: 60
Boom: 70
J Kling the Guanxi King: 43
BOB: 63

perhaps

even just the last few years of aging have made a tremendous difference on their ability to perform, or willingness to perform the harder stuff

they do as a band tend to get better as tours go on

but they are older now

do not forget

first performance at wrigley was 10 years ago

48 very different than 58
50 very different than 60
60 very different than 70
Committed to America very different than compromised chinese military industrial complex spy

members of the band have aged and/or fundamentally had their patriotism change over the last few years

it can affect performances

Seems so.
Seems like you would be more disappointed if you were blessed with the time & money to go to two and only went to the loser.
depending on chi 1, i may go chi 2

i did go to two in MSG ages ago

first night was blah and i left early

but also bc i was so F'ed up

I was half-sick and took a bunch of cough medicine

then drank margaritas pre-game and then like 8 beers

i was too wasted to hail a cab

stumbled home

was quite an adventure

managed to scale some wall when i went the wrong way and land in some rose bushes

i think i fell asleep with my apartment door open

then the following show they did that 'Betterman' which ended up in the PJ movie

fun times

but i remember night one being ass

Did ‘Take the Long Way’ have a pumping bassline? Always wonder how much better that wouldv’e been on album with big bass presence
It sounded fucking great to me! At least as good as any loud arena show can sound ! Super tight as well.
Did Josh sing Purple Rain?
Yea all but first verse.

Also, Jeremy was great. By the one the band reaches that outro I'm super into it. Always fantastic and intense
This one never gets old.
It sure does not.

Absolute $$. Do kids from younger generations dare to live on a scale this epic?

I meant there’s countries that they haven’t played in for decades. And most people can’t make the trek to the states etc to see them.
