Excited to hear how this is better than a Teach For America approach where basically any sufficiently motivated college graduate is expected to create better outcomes than whatever this is.

Without the ability to read more than the first paragraph, I think they've realized that paying teachers is a good idea. It doesn't matter if it's Rs or Ds in charge of a state.

It's a tricky one. Not sure what the article says...

Homework often inflates grades for some so the actual skills and knowledge are misrepresented.

But at the same time, it can deflate grades for some despite the student having demonstrated skills and knowledge on other assignments.

The only thing that makes sense would be to reserve x number of seats for black/ Hispanic kids. I don't recall classes at my highschool being significantly impacted, and I rather doubt they are running out of seats in their Calc AB class, but who knows.

Whatever they are doing is super ham handed.

Algebra 2, but only for "Latinx", which makes it somewhat more confusing.

Is someone running a "priming" study for kids IDing as certain ethnicities at registration? Can't imagine that would get past the IRB.

Edit2: is this why public education costs so much? Maybe this is a large school district but that's a huge number of math classes. Could some of these be better served by being taught at the local community college?

Isn't the theory that placing low SES kids with high SES kids, the former benefit to some extent? If your racially segregated groups are disproportionately low SES isn't that likely to their detriment?

I guess that goes out the window when the psychic burden of having to interact with whiteness causes the students to undertake excessive emotional labor.
