I hope WFS is not another Amongst The Waves
Remember when that was sold as the next In Hiding?
Man, what a turd sandwich that song ended up being.
I have such high expectations for WFS...
Same for Scared of Fear & Setting Sun.
I should probably dial this excitement down for my own sanity.
No way in hell these songs could possibly live up to what they've been billed as.

1. Conscious attempt to recapture the band's early 90s sound.
2. Main riff written by Wotman.
3. Conceived during the sessions for Earthling and subsequently brought to the band.
The odds are significantly stacked against Waiting For Stevie being any good.

Wasn't it WFS that (according to Stone) has the "greatest drum fill ever" ?
I mean...C'mon !! Matt's good and all
But...the greatest drum fill....EVER ???

So according to Stone WFS has a better drum fill than...
Whole Lotta Love, Tom Sawyer, Won't Get Fooled Again...and...The Air Tonight ?
Even if WFS is the greatest Pearl Jam song EVER
There is just no way in hell that it could have a drum fill that can top any of the above songs.
I'll be happy if it at least comes close to Matt's own fills on Better Man (Live on 2 Legs) and Grievance (Letterman performance)
Or any of the shit he did in Soundgarden
Matt should've smacked Stone upside the head for making such a foolish statement.
I guess we'll have to wait to find out if Stone's words are true
But I certainly have my doubts

Amongst the Waves was another HOF candidate for the 30 second clip sounding a lot better than what the full song turned about to be.

Yep! I remember loving that clip of Amongst the Waves...and then....absolute letdown once I heard it
This is my biggest fear with WFS...that along with all the reviews that say it recalls early PJ

This is what Stone said in the Spin interview when talking about WFS:
Even though it didn’t start with the other band members in the room, ‘Waiting for Stevie’ sounds more like early or Singles-era Pearl Jam than just about anything I’ve heard from the band in a long time.
Yes, and I think Andrew had more to do with that song than any song on the record because in a sense, it’s almost a tribute to Soundgarden. It has a riff that gives Matt Cameron the opportunity to be as great as we know him to be. I think that drum fill coming out of the bridge is probably one of the greatest drum fills of all time. There’s just no way you can’t make the Mötley Crüe sign. I love that song. It’s the way the bass line and the guitar line play against each other melodically. To me, it feels kind of like a hit, you know what I mean? I’ll be curious if it where it ends up sitting in the pantheon of favorites among Pearl Jam fans.

I'm not worried about WFS. I think it will be very good to great. I don't buy into the comparisons, I just expect to like the song.

WFS is gonna be a banger.
The song title is ridiculous to the highest degree, but it is what it is.
Watt also wrote the riff of Power of Right, one of the best riffs of Eddie's last record.

Starting to think this will be just another typical late era Pearl Jam song but with one million solos at the end. Not falling for the hyperbole anymore, we've been duped enough times

Personally, I don’t know how to react to the it sounds like 90s comment because Ten, Vs, No Code, Vitalogy and Yield all happened in the 90s and they sound nothing alike.

tbh if Pearl Jam simply isn't writing riffs anymore (and they aren't, not really), I don't mind someone giving them a kick up the butt and saying "write riffs or I'll write one for you", even if it's Watt

Totally.
