This is vintage Ed. He manages to munch on the words in such a unique way that lyrics read like translations into English.

That might be for Chris

Is the whole song about Chris? Breaks your heart if so. Ed said in the last Stern interview that he had t dealt with Chris’ death…..Perhaps this is him going through it..

If you guys like this song I’ll say it’s much more representative of the album than the singles were.

I for one love it. It reminds me of no code or yield era Pearl Jam when they got more introspective and I love that introspective softer Pearl Jam.

My third listen to the official audio and I have a wet salty substance leaking from my eyes. It really sneaks up on you. This song is an achievement that I didn’t think they had in them!

I have no idea if it’s based on his real life or a metaphor or what but way too many of these songs have lyrics that seem to be alluding to divorce/loss of long love to think that it isn’t what they are about on some level. I don’t know if he’s got personal things we don’t know or he’s making a concept album and identifying with this situation for some reason but I think this song is about divorce or the loss of a similar relationship

fitting since I expect the orgy of joy that will constitute half of the album to come to a screeching halt when Serban Ghanea takes a dump on my face
omg

Yeah even my wife was like, we don’t really know what’s going on in their lives. But theae lyrics and to some of the other songs are very dark.

Upper hand sounds like a damn suicide letter.
