Hey guys. Sabres fan here. Disappointment is eternal as a Buffalo sports fan. I grew up there.

What did you guys think of the Pominville trade? To me, I miss the guy but I think Ott is going to provide steady leadership. I've really taken a liking to the former Dallas Star. Ugh. Makes me feel dirty just saying it. I also think Minnesota got the player they needed for the playoff push. I'm interested in seeing how they fare in the postseason.

Then again I feel like Buffalo has let yet another player they developed get away. There is a long list of guys from over the years...Roy, Drury, Briere, Campbell and so on.

I'm fortunate in that when I moved to MS inline hockey was really taking off in the country and a league was forming down here. I joined and I dominated. We also got an ECHL team that thrived until Katrina halted their play for a few years after and they lost momentum and folded along with the other teams in the Katrina corridor. Two of the teams (the Seawolves) former players are on a show called the amazing race right now. Anthony and Bates Battaglia. I don't watch the show but I think it's pretty cool.

Now we have an SPCHL which is a basement league. I play pick up hockey with some of those guys and can compete skill wise even if I'm not in as good a shape as them or as young. I always had season tickets for the ECHL team, it was good hockey. I rarely go to the SPCHL games. Terrible hockey. They make the rink look 10 times as big as it is.

Anyways sorry for going off topic I figured I'd fill some of you in on just why a south mississippi resident is a hockey nut.

I don't think Drury and Briere really fit in the same category since they left for nothing. At least Roy and Campbell brought a solid return.

As far as the Pominville trade goes, Minnesota gave up a ton in that trade, and while I don't have a problem with it from their perspective, it's a huge win for Buffalo when it comes to jump-starting a rebuild.

I saw that! Hilarious! Right on the face off! He's also blown kisses when he leaves the penalty box. I bet it was something him and the guys came up with on the bench.

Edmonton fired Steve Tambellini and replaced him with Craig MacTavish. Based on MacTavish's comments of getting better quickly and the fact that they made Scott Howson Sr. VP of Hockey Operations, I don't see this ending well.

That's what I like to refer to as going overboard.

I agree. I was thinking they'd have a problem selling out that NJ-NYR game, but those games are the week of the Super Bowl, so selling out both those games shouldn't be a problem.

I really like the outdoor games. I have no problem at all with the league expanding on the format. Anything that will get the games nationally televised. My local NBC station chooses shitty movies over NHL games on Sundays. I have to go to NBC sports or whatever and watch the games in standard def.

The huge expansion is what's going to ruin the format. It's great when they do one, or even two, each year and it becomes a huge, rare event that we only get to see once in a while. I think they've taken it way too far, especially considering one team is going to have two outdoor games this year.

I don't mind them having more than 1 a year - why can't other cities enjoy it?

I agree that more than 1 game/team per year is a little ridiculous and takes away the novelty.

Nah. It's good for the league. It draws in viewers that wouldn't otherwise watch and a few of them might even become fans. I get what your saying though.

I watched the Sabres/Bruins game last night.

The National Anthem was quite rousing and both teams showed a lot of class, coming together at the end of the game, center ice to raise their sticks to the crowd.

Plus my Sabres won! 2 points out of a playoff spot! I wouldn't mind the draft pick but I also wouldn't mind getting to watch them play a little longer.

I really hope the standings finish something like they are now so Toronto and Montreal meet in the first round. It would obviously be awesome to see after all these years and Toronto seems to match up well against them. Most importantly, though, Toronto would avoid Boston in the first round. They've played them well this year, but based on the last few years that's probably the matchup I would be most nervous about.
