The Packers and Ravens have long been the best at this game, but the Pats are right there with them just because Belichick is so damn intelligent. Other teams have started to take this strategy as well: the Broncos, Seahawks, and 49ers are the main three that come to my mind, and there may be evidence that the new Browns GM wants to go this route too. Reggie McKenzie of the Raiders probably wants to do this as well if he didn't have such a bad roster to start with and an owner breathing down his neck.

I would love for Dorsey and Hunt to adopt this strategy.

I think the Chiefs are closer to this than a lot of other teams.

Three of the Patriots four Superbowls came down to big plays from undrafted players.

The Raiders couldn't do it simply because they had to spend money to meet the salary cap floor, plus they actually want to contend for the first time in years. Didn't make sense for them so stand pat in the way the Packers often do.

So many of the Packers philosophies are just smart. Yes, having Rodgers is the key, but they have maximized his talent as well. They've beefed up the O-line and running game in the past two years while still supplying him with fresh talent to catch passes. I remember some people saying Montgomery was a dumb pick when he's clearly a perfect WR in their system in the Cobb mold. And their defense is designed to combat the pass and create turnovers and big plays while basically asking teams to run the ball, which they can't because they're always behind. Honestly, if Nick Collins doesn't get hurt in 2011, I think they have two more Super Bowls in the last few years.

How do people feel about Mike McCarthy?

From an organizational perspective, he's perfect. He lets players develop and his patience has generally paid off for GB. But some of his on-field decisions have left me scratching my head. He can be pretty sketchy at the end of games.

The only time I remember him making really bad decisions is when he kicked two FGs in a row from the 1 yard line in last year's NFCCG.

he's made plenty of infuriating goofs over the years, and he's also absolutely terrible at challenges. i swear he went two or three seasons without winning one.

but yeah, he's a great head coach, an offensive savant, and a quarterback whisperer. basically a clone of mike holmgren.

Manning blew up Flemming. Flemming was subsequently benched and Cooper given the go Monday night. I'm in favor of cutting Cooper but not before Flemming. Flemming should absolutely not be on this roster. Cooper is a liability for sure, but he did show promise in his rookie year. I don't like either of them but we can't let both go.
You obviously know the Chiefs better than I do--I've only seen Flemming blown up once while seemingly every time I've watched Cooper play he's been beaten like a drum. Both are likely terrible, though. They need to hope that the Phillip Gaines injury wasn't too serious.
Amen to that. Having Smith back is going to help tremendously. But we're not very deep in the secondary. Good QBs (like Manning and Rogers) are gonna continue to eat us alive.
Damn.

Man, WTF are the Saints doing? Just traded a young DT to the Patriots for a backup TE. That is just a bad trade in pretty much any light. I'm starting to believe what Junior Galette was saying about Payton being on pills all the time. Saints might get the #1 pick this year.

The Pats get another decent 320 lber in the middle on defense.

The saints admit they can't stop anyone and need to help Brees with a running game.

That said, dumb trade on paper, An average fullback for a quality D lineman? Maybe he wore out his welcome.

I have to think that Rob Ryan just can't coach defense. His schemes seem overly complicated and stupid at the same time and his players seem to get worse on his watch. I remember when he was coaching the Cowboys and he had Ware drop into coverage a few times. Just dumb, overthinking schemes.

They're going to have very fierce competition from the Bears in that department.

Suffice to say, I'm very happy that Ware's reunited with Wade.

is there even a QB going into this draft that's going to be a #1 overall worthy guy?
