The irony is, if Pearl Jam went the direction I thought they were going in with the No Code through Riot Act trajectory, I'd easily and happily spend $150 for a ticket to see them at a place like the HOB (best sound in Boston, btw).

how are GA tickets being scalped? Thought that section was 10c only, and assumed they would shut that down.

Pearl Jam are a pretty big band, but I don't think they're as big as they appear to be - selling out Wrigley Field is impressive, but I very much doubt they could they have done that had it only been one date in a larger tour. Bands like Foo Fighters and Tool tour more widely and more frequently and (as far as I know) sell arenas out quite comfortably despite that - I'm quite sceptical Pearl Jam could do the same if they were on the road every year.

For the record, I'm with this guy. Nobody is forcing anyone to go nuts for Pearl Jam tickets, they tour like this because they can and they probably make as much money doing a handful of one-off shows and festivals as they would playing 30 smaller venues.

Screwing fans over....I was a little harsh with that....I think it makes it toughier for fans to actually catch the band...Without having to travel a long distance......I see no problem with doing tours that cover at least most regions of the usa....For an example...They have did a true south tour since Riot act tour....

As a Chicagoan, I strongly disagree that it wouldn't have sold out if there was a full tour. The novelty of Wrigley sold it. I have more ticket requests than I know what to do with. And most are from people who haven't seen PJ in years, but seeing them at Wrigley is a once in a lifetime event (hopefully) that they want to be a part of.

Jason Aldean is playing the next night. They'd have to add a Thursday show, or a Sunday show with another performer in the middle. Either is unlikely because, in agreement with the neighborhood, Wrigley only can do a set number of shows per year (6?) so it's not just a matter of scheduling for the parties involved.
