You think Bodysnatchers, Nude and Reckoner sound lifeless and dull? I just can't get behind that at all. In Rainbows is Radiohead at their most soulful.

I'm only a few tracks in, but "Bodysnatchers" was the worst offender so far. I do still love "Weird Fishes/Arpeggi" though.

As I'm listening, the more it's bugging me that I can't put my finger on what it is about their post-HTTT output that doesn't work for me. Like, I can sit back and hear that, seemingly, most of the right pieces are there, but they just don't fit together for me like their previous stuff. They don't get in my guts. They don't excite me. I don't know. I can't figure it out. Argh.

"In Rainbows" was my favorite since "OK Computer". It had a similar effect on me. But I think that might be because it's more "upbeat" than the previous 3 albums were. "Reckoner" is so fucking good, it's scary.

"Bodysnatchers" originally had that sick breakdown part in between the verses as well. But they snipped it out which effectively makes the first part of the song one long verse. The effect on the album is that it's more dramatic, but I think the first part of the song drags a result.

A big question for me:

Do I pick up the regular, run of the mill vinyl of this album on June 17 to tide me over til the special edition comes in September, or wait & only listen digitally til September??

The production is insane, the compositions are faultless and the performances achieve a mood/texture that encompasses every shade of their previous work and amplifies into something even more wondrous.

I think post-HTTT they pushed the music but not themselves. The songs have passion but are a bit erudite. I just don't hear any of the musicians passion. Still love it all though.

I feel like it's a lot to take in one listen. The production, at least on first glance, seems extremely dense, but more than that it just feels really sad. It's a pithy word to describe it, but it fits.

That's pretty much how I feel after two listens. Like you said, there is a lot to take in, but this grabbed me the first time through in a way not too many other albums do.

second listen here. Really enjoying it but still a lot to digest.

Not sure how I feel about a 6 1/2 minute "Daydreaming" at track 2. I really love the song but find its one of those I like to keep for special occasions and not listen to all the time. Its a heavy heavy tune.

Really good stuff here though. I'm excited to have it.

When most artists get to about 40yrs old there is a serious drop off in inspiration. There's no such thing as a cool 40 yr-old.

Guess I can understand why people don't care for todays Radiohead though.

I have the hardest time telling people "you need to listen to it more" because I do the same thing with artists I am not personally invested in.
