That's always been my understanding, but I think most of the time it's a request that reasonable parents accept. I'm pretty sure in the end you can't "deny" a student of an education.

Do they not have ROs in MI? They can sometimes convince parents to take a student off the premises.

Giving your kid an assault rifle and him shooting up a school and then Leaving your kid sit in a cell and going on the run, I just can’t wait to see how they get outta this. And they probably will.

It was a handgun dime, not an assault rifle.

If there was a mental evaluation required before you could buy your 15 year old a gun, these folks probably would not have passed.

A pretty weak defense after the complete abdication of that duty for 18 months in some parts of the country. The admin was worried about a vague threat of litigation at some point in the future? They're public officials, they have QI. They were too lazy to push the issue.

That said, its the smallest failure here, just happened to be the last possible offramp.

I going to ignore the "abdication" jab there.

That's why I'm curious about officers in the building. A cop could have pushed the issue as a legal matter (you're neglecting your kid by not getting him help) that would have gone beyond the school's recommendation that the kid needed to be hospitalized for a psych eval.

Nothing can explain why the kid wasn't kept in isolation with an adult at his hip if he wasn't leaving the building. How do you go from "I think you should leave and we strongly recommend getting help" to "okay, well I guess you can go back to class." Whoever made that call should re-sign and will probably face a civil suit from the 4 dead and the 7 wounded. Just awfulness everywhere I look with this one. A+ for the teacher that took the photo of his note though, really quick thinking.
