I like Rope a lot, haven’t watched it again this week but it’s probably in my top ten. Although Jimmy Stewart is miscast imo.

In a funk last night, need to watch something mindless and entertaining.

As far as I'm concerned, "Disclosure Day" is when I do my yearly rewatch of the 1994 erotic thriller starring Michael Douglas and Demi Moore

Mississippi Grind

This movie may have merit but I just cannot take Ryan Reynolds seriously at all. Talk about an actor taking you out of the movie! I kept expecting him to be sleazy Ryan Reynolds, but he's just a nice guy? Don't get me wrong, he's still Ryan Reynolds doing Ryan Reynolds shit, but his character is still a good guy or something. This movie sucks.

Maybe they should have replaced him with Idris Elba.

Ryan is insufferable.

Discomfort Day.

Blunt was great as usual, but otherwise this was a big snooze . Competent direction from Spielberg (except for all the lens flares!), but I struggled to find a reason to care. Some of the characters were so annoying and stupid. And there are plotholes you can drive a truck through. There isn't any real tension since they can make up random magic powers whenever it suits.

I kept waiting for some big revelation that would make me care, but it never came. A very pointless movie.

And that ending was laughably out of touch. No way anyone would care about this in real life. This isn't 1974.

No Zendaya.

Ikiru. Wow, I absolutely loved this one. Beautiful and heartbreaking. Simple and powerful. Genuinely funny and some amazing photography. I haven't had my eyes glued to the screen this hard in a long time.

The Boys From Brazil. I was hoping Gregory Peck and Steve Guttenberg shared more scenes together. This movie certainly did some things with various ideas it had.

Oh no! I only watched two movies this week. That's not enough to keep pace with my project to complete the aggregated list of the 1,000 greatest movies of all time put together by the good folks over at theyshootpictures.com before my 40th birthday near the end of next year

The two movies I watched were Broadcast News (fun! enjoyable! I wish I was more like these people, even though they are assholes!), and Ozu's early silent comedy I Was Born, But...

244 movies to go, and I have about 17.5 months to complete the project on time and under budget. Pray for me

The Long Walk (2025)

This was great. Adapting Stephen King to film/tv has always been dicey but when it works, it fucking WORKS. This team fully understood the assignment. I think this ranks up there with the all time great SK adaptations.

And I have no idea how Cooper Hoffman got through making this movie. When his character tells Pete that his father was the last good person on Earth and Pete replies, "he chose to leave you, how is that good?" my fucking heart broke. I have no idea how he got through that scene. Jesus.

It's not a perfect film (*cough*MarkHamill*cough*) but it's very poinyant and timely and hyper affective. I think it's weird that this movie didn't get more universal love and consideration.

Masters Of The Universe (2026)

Mixed feelings. It was great to see these characters again, and most of them looked good, Skeletor being awesome. But the comedy was so tired and old and i pretty much hate they didnt make an action adventure that took itself seriously. Skeletor comedy was ok, mainly because it was straight up from the cartoons but thats it.

Also, nice to see Orco at the end! and the She Ra scene too.
