I really wanted to sign Masterson. Fits the Rangers ballpark very well.

Would not surprise me if they finish as the top 2 teams. Rays are going to suck. I think the O'd take a step back. The Yankees are a mess and I love it. I like the Jays on paper a lot though and I could see Stroman breaking out this year. Better K/BB ratio than Cueto, Wainright and Hamels. As a rookie.

Wow. Just saw Phil Hughes broke the MLB record for that in a season this past year. He was 11.63 to 1. Fuck. Knew he had a hell of a year but wow that is impressive. He was awful his last couple of years in NY. I will love him forever for game 2 and 6 of the 2010 ALCS.

I think the Royals will take a step back as well. I think that division could surprise this year top to bottom.

They weren't that good last year to begin with. Other teams gagged down the stretch and the Royals, much like the 07 Rockies, got hot at the right time.

I don't know anything about the other people involved in the trade, but the Rays are moving Wil Myers? Are they now dumping guys before they get to arbitration?

Apparently the Nats are the clear winners of this deal with the prospects they're getting.

Yeah, getting a high-end prospect or two a fourth outfielder seems like a nice haul.

I wonder how something like this works for a player like Trea Turner. He has to be named as a PTBNL since he's not eligible to be traded until June 14, so he'll technically stay in the Padres system until then. But how much say (if any) would the Nats have over how he's used in that time? I'm sure teams know how this stuff works because it's not like this trade is unique in that regard, but I've always wondered if they have verbal or official deals for that kind of thing or if they just proceed as if he's still a Padre until June 14.

To be fair, this seems like a pretty solid return for Upton.

The #1 thing I will miss about Justin Smoak (M's recently sent him to the Blue Jays) is his at bat song "Get Your Shine On" by Florida Georgia Line.

This is what introduced me to Nu-Country as a genre, which I'll throw on every now and then at my desk or when I'm doing yardwork (which pisses Bammer's wife off big time).

I have a Smoak signed ball somewhere from when he was in AAA.
