rigsofdad: Hubert Kurr is a Sisyphus of Songs if there ever was one.... Seems like he’s just never been able to catch a break or have any luck with his music, no matter whose songs he is playing.
The road to Tone Town is paved with rock for those that wanna roll... but it was a rough, uphill start for Hubert. His first project “Pour Some ShuKurr On Me” was a tough sell for audiences in general because many thought it was a hip hop project... Those might work out in Marris Fault or Marris Quarry... but not here in Pudgemont.

Then, In early 2001 he was poised to conquer the scene with his next band. Unfortunately, he opted to leave off the “a Tribute to The Cranberries” suffix from the name to avoid billing confusion with Graham Sufferd’s band “The Grahamberries: A Tribute to The Cranberries”; sadly, it may have done more harm than good, because most clubs wouldn’t book “The Kurranberries” after 9/11.
Since then, Hubes must have been swimming some serious laps in Guin-tone-amo Bay because all my doubts of this man’s ability to rock and roll (or roll his rock) to the top all changed last night at the Chug Suckle. As the lead bassist and rhythm vocalist for “In Hutero: A Tribute To Nirvana”, Hubert has given birth to a tonal toddler that was born to rock.

Throwing out more licks than a hungry toad, and with the kind of courage I have not seen since Metallica put out “Lode” and “ReLode”, these dudes were definitely the Heroes of the Day. It was like watching Kirk Cobain come back to life, get better at the rhythmic aspects of signing, and play his hits on a five string bass. I can’t wait to see these guys again in a few weekends at Father’s Slay 2018 at the Denim Fall Rotary Club.

Curious to see what the rebranded Youtube Music is all about today.

Got an invite to try the new Youtube Music. It's not as bad as that review made it out to be. The interface is basically GPM + Youtube with a Spotify aesthetic facelift (i.e. dark). If you've used any of those you won't have any trouble figuring it out. Two things jumped out at me: 1) the ad-supported version doesn't allow background listening, which makes it useless on a phone unless you want to leave the app open and your screen on the whole time. You have to pay for Youtube Red ($10/mo) to get rid of ads and turn on background and audio-only listening (it defaults to playing a music video where one is available). 2) The play controls disappear if you start clicking around the app while a song is playing. Where do they go? How do you get them back? This is either a huge oversight or I'm missing something obvious.

I'm on a $3.33/mo Spotify deal right now, but I'll probably give this a try when that runs out.
