Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017)
A while back he talked a lot about this being about difficulty faced: what are the greatest challenges these characters could encounter? He was more interested in coming from a place of adversity and difficulty than a place of tragedy and destruction, per se. And he has referenced Empire in that context.Strat wrote:Did i miss something again? Did Rian speak about LTJ and deaths?

In all honesty, I don't expect this movie to be much like Empire when all is said and done. With the obvious exception that it's the "darker" and "more difficult" middle chapter of a trilogy, of course. I wonder if dime isn't right that we'll have more "this isn't my Star Wars" and "that wasn't enough like the OT" comments and feelings about this one, honestly.

This will straddle that and we'll hear both it's too different to my Star Wars and we'll hear it's just Empire redone.
That's what's going to happen. And then once 9 is out TLJ will be celebrated by these same wankers saying they always loved it and it's a masterpiece. (Cos they say so of course)

Also. I obviously hope the falcon is always on screen. But everything is on the table.
If I'm kylo ren and I've found which planet they're on and I go there alone in my new TIE silencer and coming in over the island the first thing I see is my dads ship and I'm an evil bastard? Simple strategy says I'm gonna blow that ship up either cos they might be on it and I can take them out or prevent them escaping and quote my grandfathers famous 'I have you now' and then blast it to pieces.

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017)
I'll go on record officially right now one more time... I fully expect to LOVE The Last Jedi. I can't wait. I've never been this excited to see a Star Wars film in my life. I hope it's the best one so far. There's even a good chance I'll actually go to a midnight or early screening, which is something I haven't done for Star Wars since Attack of the Clones.
But I'll watch the movie with a critical eye. If it disappoints, I'll admit it. I've got super high expectations. Maybe too high for any movie to realistically meet. We'll see. But I'm totally excited and expect to love it.

With you on every single point. This is going to be the great one. The one that unseats Empire. And I'll admit to being nervous too but I can feel it. Rian Johnson is immensely fucking pleased with himself. And he doesn't seem like that kinda guy.
He's sitting on an amazing film and he can't wait to show it to us all

The market doesn't need a conveyor belt of bland same same marvel films but look at how that's going. Just different enough to make money but playing in the same field. This will be that too at worst. But it's Rian Johnson. You don't hire him to make a cookie cutter same same movie.
He's the Irving kirshner this go around. And that's great.

I have total faith in Johnson l. One way or another.
We only have one element that is a liability now.
John Williams. If he can bring his best to this, then we're off to the races.

Im exited because Mark Hamill is playing Luke...one of the thing i hated from tfa was the cliffhanger at the end with him...now, we are going to have a full movie with Luke...thats enough to grab my attention.

Watching Jedi right now.
Calling it. Luke and Vader on the station corridor. That'll be the echo in last Jedi.
Rey will probably go willingly with kylo to snoke. As in that breakdown few pages back.
Luke always seems destined to fail. She'll see him as a huge disappointment and be totally disillusioned with him and that'll be her motivation to go

Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017)
By the way Joe, what i express are my views, my own disenchanted thoughts in out pop culture.
Im worried about big corporations taking over this beloved titles and making them on repeat just to make money, more money, toys, books and comics, and rides...Of course ill see this one, im exited about luke and rian, of course the rides are a blast...but its ok to do it and still be careful about it...Its ok to go enjoy a movie and still think its own existence is to sell a new bunch of toys.
Again, just my view. You dont have to think the same or be defensive about it.

Thereve been black series figures I wanted to buy. The droids mainly.
The whole fanbase is obsessed with those funko pops. There's entire podcasts about collecting and subsections on original toys black series funkos etc.
Even if I had the money i wouldn't be into all that.
Some of the commissioned art and posters though. They're amazing almost always.

Imagine Luke sits Rey down and instead of giving her some weird force vision to explain everything he just gets R2 to play the whole thing back for her. Rey would be watching Star Wars. That would be amazing.
