looks like backspacer was widely leaked sept 11th and came out the 20th

i am basing that on the TSIS review, which I would have written the day I got it

Even now I don't like hearing a new PJ album as a leak. Every other artist I can listen to a 192kbps webrip or whatever, but for Pearl Jam I really like the physical album, with the liner notes, etc. Having said that, the way I first listened to Backspacer was stupid. I had ordered the 10c version but I couldn't wait a month so I ditched work that morning, bought the CD (they sold it at Walmart in Canada) and listened to it like 3-4 times in my car in an empty parking lot. I went into the office after lunch. I still remember my excuse for not coming in .... my dog had been sick so I had to bring her to the vet.

Yeah, because that's what good artists do; repeat themselves all the time.

I love his work on the website; it's very native American, reminds me of totems.

Even the best artists revisit styles and subjects all the time.

Sometimes it's healthy for an artist to revisit (not repeat) something they know they do well, especially in order to kickstart creativity again

i like his stuff. very stylized.

That's why I used the word 'repeat', not 'revisit'. They're different. It's fine to have preoccupations that fuel your work throughout your career.

But artist (painters) spend years stuck in certain themes or periods so I'd say being stuck can sometimes yield good results. Speaking of which, I wish PJ had been stuck on Yield for a bit longer!
