If this band continues well into their 50's I predict Backspacer songs will be mysteriously absent from the setlists as the years go by.

That's been a pretty consistent pattern for every record after Yield.

I know that they said they were willing to take more advice from Brendan on the last record, but in general they've always maintained that they work the arrangements pretty hard before they reach completion. I'm inclined to believe most of the nitty-gritty songwriting and arrangement stuff is done in house, so to speak. I doubt he's ever really stepped into the role of songwriting, or as you've said, he probably would have been credited for his contributions.

Anyways, I disagree with this...I don't think people really disliked the record cause it was upbeat, or even poppy in comparison to their other work. The people that have a stated dislike for it seem to just not think the songs are good.
