I just heard one of these guys on NPR this morning, trying to justify his position. He sounded like a delusional imbecile.

I heard him, too. His basic response to everything was "it's not Hillary." I thought Inskeep skewered him. Especially on the point about Trump saying he knows more about ISIS than the generals and admirals. God, that was awesome.

Yea, I did a coffee spit take when the interviewer asked him about Trump "going in big-time on ISIS," and he started answering with Trump's anti-immigration policies. The interview said, "Well, I'm not sure that's going big-time on ISIS..." and I lost it.

Hertling said he was surprised by the letter praising Trump.
"I didn't recognize many of those names as being there in the fight with me over the last 16 years," Hertling said. "There aren't a whole lot of names in the fight against al Qaeda or several of the other forces."
He said most of the names on the list are Navy admirals who were not on the ground during the war against terror.
Hertling served in the Army for 37 years.

True. I've seen people commenting that it wasn't designed as a "gotcha" question--but I totally disagree. The way it was worded and the way it was delivered, I feel like the writers/producers/hosts knew Johnson isn't strong on foreign policy and were trying to trip him up. However, I still think it's disconcerting that he had no idea what they were talking about; this isn't the same as Trump's Quds/Kurds flub, which was more of a misunderstanding.

Honestly, I'd rather the candidate be up to date on and have detailed plans for domestic issues than foreign policy. But this guy is a bit of whack job, so it's not that surprising.

Anytime someone who is running for the presidency exhibits a complete lack of general geography I'm surprised, especially a lack of awareness for a city that's been around for over 5,000 fucking years. Hopefully I'm not alone.

I feel like Aleppo has been pretty prevalent throughout this whole conflict, but particularly the last couiple weeks in regards to the worsening conditions there. You'd have to be pretty uninformed to not know what it is. Also a blanket foreign-policy question like "what is your plan for Syria" is not necessarily the same as "what is your plan for Aleppo", which refers to dealing with the specifics of the humanitarian crisis there. Don't see this as a "gotcha" question at all.
