Also there's that documentary still yet:

http://www.alternativenation.net/eddie- ... -revealed/
The new documentary Return to Mount Kennedy was premiered earlier this year, featuring original instrumental music from Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder. The film has had screenings but isn’t available digitally or on DVD, and the soundtrack featuring Vedder has yet to be release. The team behind the film are now reporting on Instagram that an official soundtrack release is now in the works with Sub Pop. The Return to Mount Kennedy team commented, “We’re working on a soundtrack with @subpop. Stay tuned!”

It seems a little late for a 2018 release to come to fruition, so 2019 seems far more likely. Pearl Jam are also rumored to release a new album in 2019.

Is this actually true or is it just bandwagoning on the "DAE Eddie Vedder sucks" meme? Songs for movies aren't used for all manner of reasons.

HARDWICK: And it's such a wonderful fit.

COOPER: Yeah.

HARDWICK: Who thought of that? And why re-record-- did the whole band come in to do that?

COOPER: It was Ed. Just Ed. We used the original master. No, he was great. I couldn't have asked for more. He saw a rough cut of the film and I think it really stuck with him. He told me immediately that he wanted to give us a song. We had a lot of late-night brainstorming sessions, trying to figure out who Rod was and how we could express that in music and lyrics. He wrote a bunch of original songs for us and, uh...

HARDWICK: It wasn't quite there?

COOPER: It wasn't... [laugh] I guess we just weren't on the same page regarding the, uh, the aesthetics of the movie. The tone we were shooting for. I mean, some of the stuff he came up with was great. All of it, I should say. Great music that I could listen to in my car. Fun stuff, for sure. But it wasn't who Rod was, and it wasn't what I had envisioned. And I was killing myself because, fuck, here's Eddie Vedder and he wants to give me original songs for my movie and I'm just not feeling them. And then it dawned on me. Or I should say, it dawned on both of us. "Release" was the song. We recorded his new vocal track over an afternoon in Barbados, and we had the ending.
Really interesting, thanks. But this doesn't mean the songs were bad - just that they didn't match the tone of the movie. It happens all the time. Shit, Springsteen wrote a song for the first Harry Potter movie and it got turned down.

agreed. if anything, it serves some humility that a musician of that stature probably needs

It doesn’t mean the songs were good, either. It’s note for note what I assume his diplomatic response would look like if the songs sucked, right down to the whoops-I-tried-to-be-generous-and-instead-said-too-much moment:
some of the stuff he came up with was great. All of it, I should say.

yeah... that's definitely a CYA move right there.

And on the plus side, we got that partial re-recording of "Release," which indicates to me that all involved in the decisionmaking process for this soundtrack were generally of sound artistic judgment.

They responded to new material by listening once, pretending to like it, and then asking to hear Release again. They’d fit right in.

We are all waking to the fact that Beth actually wrote the lyrics until Riot Act.

While we wait for anything, check out this new song from the band Soen.

I got a strong Cold Confession / Immortality vibe from this song. It's fantastic. If Pearl Jam can deliver anything of this quality for the next album, I'd be ecstatic.
